I agree with Zog. As far as I know, the Patriots have the best defense in the league.

Ahh... football season is here at last!! What an awesome game to open the season with, with two of the best teams from last year, and both looking good again this year...

Only thing that kinda had me worried about the Pats was that drive in the first half where the colts ran 9 straight times to score... that was kinda scary... but they fixed that prob at the half, so it turned out OK...

I still think Peyton is the modern day Marino. Phenomenal numbers, but will never win the big one.

Really like the Pats, lotta fun to watch, but I like Seattle this year too. Definitely have the offense, with hasselbeck, alexander, that monster o line, and those receivers (who hopefully recovered from last season's dropsy  )

Tennessee will always be tough as long as Fisher is coach and McNair is at QB, that guy is something. Brett Favre will always have the mantle of toughest SOB to every play cube, but McNair is right up there... I swear that guy would be out there in a half body cast and still be throwing TD's in the fourth...

Baltimore still has the D... but people have figured out how to stop Jamal Lewis, they'll just ape the Titan's 9-2 stack and make the rest of the O beat them.... outside of Heap, who are they?

Rams will beat some people, but I have confidence that martz will find a way for them to blow a playoff game again :D

Jets may surprise some people... Pennington getting hurt F'd them last year... and he should be healthy now... kid is real good on the short stuff...

KC still has the O, but not the D... probably same results as before, if not slightly worse...

Eagles? Owens will deep-six them. Tons of talent but the guy's a cancer, IMO. I don't think they can overcome that.

Tampa Bay? Their whole stadium is now located between parts of mississipi and alabama due to the latest CAT 19 hurricane, so they had to change their name to the Transient State of Location Buccaneers. Makes practicing a bitch, what with volvos on the field getting in the way and all :D

Anyway, ALL HAIL THE NFL! The greatest sports league yet devised by humans.

Matter of opinion nothing. He is the benificiary of a well schemed and talented team. Lots of people comparing him to Joe Montana and I think thats perfect. He was a good QB but he was a benificiary of his system. I'm not saying he had no talent but how many Superbowls did he win in his years with the Chiefs? And they had talented teams also.

He is the beneficiary of a well organized team. However, he does deserve more credit for the quality of his play that what you are willing to credit him with. And the side issue with Montana - how old was he when he was with the Chiefs? AT some point, there has to be a deterioration of his skills.

I'll combine my answers on this one. About 20th ranked? thats about 2/3rds the way down the ladder. Doesn't sound good to me and Superbowl history lately shows you have to be in the 10 team defenses (re:Patriots). Saying your better than the bottom 3rd of the league doesn't sound like bragging rights to me.

No, it's not bragging rights. But w\o checking your original wording, didn't you say they were a "leaky drain". This would denote they would be one of the absolute worse in the league. Actually, in checking where they actually ranked last year, I found out they were #11.

And I am having a hard time understanding your duct tape comment when you proved my point EXACTLY! 7 guys on the line blocking plus QB makes 8. The Colts would rush four and drop 7 GUYS INTO COVERAGE! and they couldn't cover just three recievers!

No, I came a far cry from proving your point EXACTLY, or even REMOTELY. And I don't beleive the Colts rushed four on every play and dropped all other back in coverage. Even with TEs blocking, they still draw a coverage responsilbity from the defense. And thinking about it, I think the # of play in which you stated that the Pats were in max protection was somewhat overstated.

And he sat there the last few weeks studying tape? designing plays, coaching the team into what audibles to call? Or did a good coaching staff do that and make him part of the system.

I bet he has spent his fair share of time studying tape. Not to "design" plays, but to recognize the defensive system of the other teams. He still needs to have the ability to recognize the defensive scheme almost instantly, and call the play in the playbook that would best counteract it. And yeah, the coaching plays a part in this. But he also plays a big part!

Thanks for the list of all the crap teams the Pats play this year.
1Colts No "D"
2Cardinals No anything "O", "D", or special teams
3 Everybody wins when they play this team
4.Bills Number 2 ranked "D" last year. How far did that carry them into the playoffs? Hell my Vikings had the number one ranked offense last year and look how far they went into the playoffs. This has all the makings of a 10-6 game and you'd better believe the Pats will have the 10
5.Dolphins Ah yes! watch the mighty offensive juggernaut roll! (snicker snicker)
6.Seahawks Can't win on the road and I think the Pats are a better team despite the 'Hawks being a fashionable pick among the experts.
7.Jets Who knows. Not good last year and major changes on defense. Certainly not able to be called an elite team at this point. Although I do like Pennington alot.
8Steelers Questionable D and although they are going back to the run the Pats can stop running teams. Look at the halftime corrections they made to clamp down on James last night. Thats solid coaching by the way.
9Rams PUH LEASE this team is going to have the biggest fall off in the NFC You'd better believe that O line won't do a good job and Chandler will start a few games this year until he is injured also. Their defense is mighty suspect also.
10See number 4
11 Chiefs? You mean the same Chiefs who couldn't even force a punt against Indy in the AFC Divisional playoffs? The Chiefs who have all of the exact same players who couldn't do it last year?
12. I don't think these guys are going to have much of an offense this year (again) but what the hell! They had Trent Dilfer and won a Superbowl. This D is going to be the biggest challenge the Pats face all year.

Sorry, I'm not going game by game through their schedule. It is hard for an NFL team to win each and every week. The over\under for the regular season wins by the Patriots is 11 (from sportsbook.com). So if you are convinced the Patriots will win the first 11 games of the season, this would be a money making oppurtunity for you!

As far as you going by so called "Expert Opinions" check how many guys picked the Patriots too even make the Superbowl last year. I follow all the sports websites and I know. ESPN, NFL.com, Sportsline, Foxsports, PFW. one and only one guy picked the Patriots to make the big game and that was Gil Brandt of NFL.com. So much for "expert opinion"
[/B]

Since when are insiders in the NFL and on the Patriots assessing the value of one of their own players the same as football reporters predicitng the Super Bowl match-up?

Like I said, I'm not even a Patriots fan, but damn, you gotta give the them their fair share of crdit for what they have been able to accomplish!

The same defense that wore out last year in the laatter half of the season. Yes, they have a good defense. The defense is nowhere near good enough to win all their games for them. And I expect teams to be able to counteract Parcells a little better this year. And me thinks you should have some concern who the QB is. Eddie George has looked absolutely dreadful so far. Julius Jones might be able to grow into the feature back they need.

Look, they are a decent young team. But they need more pieces of the puzzle before they can become a serious contender!

At the risk of sounding egotistical and self aggrandizing allow me to quote.. ME:D .

Cowboys? Too bad you are going to start your season out 0-1 after running into the buzzsaw that is my 2004 Vikings!

Daunte will start the year out with a HUGE passing day

Hehehe 5 passing TD's! I hate fantasy football but whoever started him has to be creaming their jeans!
