35 million, not billion
This is sad. FOX News said that tens of thousands are still missing. It could sadly end up that over 100,000 people died. The cover girl of SI Swimsuit Issue barely survived by hanging onto a tree, but her boyfriend photographer is missing
A town named Phuket ... repeat that one to yourself a few times.
Nemcova and British photographer Simon Atlee (search) had been vacationing in the resort of Phuket when the waves swept over them on Sunday, said Atlee's agent, Eve Stoner.

It's hard to wrap my mind around that number, 58,000 perhaps 100,000 when it's all said and done. All in a matter of minutes.

This is really devastating.... and the coverage on it is beyond depressing..... Its so strange to flip through the channels and see people like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton complaining about photographers being in the same string of headlines as an issue as huge as this. It really knocks a certain kind of perspective into ya.... all the death and disease this is causing is just so large-scale.
And to reply to Code Red, Im positive George Carlin's comment went more or less like that... and he's absolutely right, IMO...... we can affect the earth all we want.....it'll only ultimately affect the life on it rather than earth itself.

Canada's disaster-relief efforts for southern Asia have shifted into emergency gear at last, with Prime Minister Paul Martin and lead ministers speeding back to Ottawa from their vacations and an announcement of a world-leading, $36 million increase to financial aid for the tsunami-devastated region.
