Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

I just find it sad we'll spend billions to take over a country but when people REALLY need our help we can only muster a few mil...
And yes of course no matter what the states do in this situation, it wont be good enough for the rest of the world....

No one ever likes the big kid on the block...
The other contries have to realize (but won't) that we are currently conducting 2 wars that are building up a huge gap in the budget. It is expected that this funding is only the initial aid we will send. Analysist estimate that the US will post close to a billion dollars when it is all said and done.

I wasn't trying to start a pissing contest

I dont even have a penis for it.....lol
No really...what the US is donating is great, what Australia is donating is great, what Canada is donating is great....all donations by all countries are great.... response everywhere seems to be great so far.

Im sure some of the world didn't see what the US was donating, and I read someone posted it back there, so I thought i'd include us Canucks:)
Edit: And as for the US.... Im sure Michael Moore will try and cash in on that with an overrated, hyperbolized "documentary" within the next few years....
You know, if that dude shaved he'd look like a human version of Peter Griffin.....

My company donated over $200,000 today. It's great to work at a place that puts so much into humanitarian efforts.

http://www.drudgereport.com has a headline that the toll may hit 400,000 as the find that a town of 160,000 is GONE except for 1 building, military on a hill. There is also another article that speculates that India may be way underestimating the number of its dead, the article mentions 1,000,000.
It boggles the mind.

1 million is absurd. It's only possible of there would be a terrible disease.
100,000 is bad enough

I don't write it, I just pass it along.
400.000 in Indonesia
Is India underestimating their dead?
"Red Cross is estimating the toll could shoot up to 1,00,000 dead (from the present 80,000) in Asia once more information comes in from Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Andamans are situated just north of Sumatra, the epicentre of Sunday's quake that set off the killer waves."

Gates is giving 3 million and Microsoft will match charitable donations by its employees. Rough estimates is near 50 million.
Pfizer Drugs is donating $10 million in cash and $25 million worth of drugs.

they should be grateful we are helping. just like when you give someone a present, its not the cost that matters, but that you contributed.

Ive been reading up on the news, and I cant seem to find anybody actually saying they're pissed with the low amount the us is donating so far, but i have found a lot of people assuming others are saying that. If you have seen it, i'm sure its a small minority, if you havent...

One guy in the UN complained, he didn't say America specifically, he made is sound like America, and Europe were stingy. I look at it like this, is your friend has his house burn down, the first act of charity is going seem small --a place to stay, some clothes for tomorrow, a couple hundred bucks from your wallet. That's just taking care of the most immediate needs. More will come later, and more would be useless for days or weeks. Right now everyone is trying to do the basics, get the bodies buried, airlift food, water, and medicine to the living. Rebuilding infrastructure is going to happen later and cost much more. I think Colin Powell addressed it, basically said 'The guy who made this comment is under extreme stress right now trying to figure out how he's going to care for all these people, don't go too hard on him.'

This is off-topic but I would vote for Colin Powell.
