Did they even make 2.8s at 400FSB? I thought the last line of 400FSB was 2.6?

hehe...thats what i thought until i purchased the cpu for 65 bucks right...and a guy was selling it on ebay for over 170...b/c everyone stuck with 400fsb mobos can upgrade the cpu without upgrading mobo.

do you know if their is a big difference between the 2?
thanks

Hmm.

You shouldnt be able to swap a 400FSB CPU for a 800FSB one like that.

Is it socket 478 or socket 423? What motherboard do you have?

a 2.8 e is a prescott core p4 instead of a northwood. They run hotter and they are a little slower than the northwood clock for clock.

definatly upgrade to the 800mhz fsb with ht. The ht chip has provided a huge upgrade for my system.

I dont think you'll be able to do it unless your mobo supports new cores.

Post your mobo manufacturer and model number

Hyperthreading actually slows down your computer unless your doing something made to take advantage of it. Which would be video editing, picture editing and thing like that.

Reason is that winxp will install extra drivers so it can use HT.

The pentium 4 extrem edition is really just a hyped up xeon processor with the purpose of trying to take away the athlon 64 on it's debut day.

The extra cache won't help with gaming much but thing like video editing picture modifiying or accessing many files will speed up.

actually the extreme edition is Intel's best gaming processor, and it is because of the 2mb of l3 cache. Go look at any gaming benchmarks comparing it to the regular northwoods or prescotts. The extreme edition annihalates them.
