Urrrrrrg need help

I've been trying to play FFVII for PC recently and I got the part where dyne jumps from a cliff. Just after with no chance to save it keep crashing just as the chocobo race is supposed to start.

Any help?

I will be checking things out on my own in the meantime.

Also isn't that the point at which your supposed to change to disk 2?

Are you running XP? I believe it's a known XP bug (happens on mine too!).
