Holy shiznet! 83Mpg?!
I just saw on the news that diesel cars are getting as high as 83Miles per gallon! ALlot of car manufacturers will be releasing diesel lines this fall. And since deisel engines require less maintenance and the feul is cheaper!
ANyone heard anything else about this?

I have known about diesels for years, my dad has a 6.5L turbo diesel Chevy Suburban, thats gets 22 mpg highway. Its basically a fuel (oil to be exact) that combusts at a lower temperature than normal gasoline. The only problem is it gives off more pollution than a regular engine, they want to start putting canisters of urea on the exhaust that will inject into the exhaust and make it less polutionary. (I rule spelling bees)

You know you can out vegetable oil instead of diesel in a diesel car and it will still run.

There are many advantages to diesal. The biggest disadvantage is on cold days are you going to wait thirty minutes for coils to heat up. Even in the summer its not like you jump in a diesal and peel out within seconds. This turns allot of people off. Diesal engines for smaller cars aren't loud at all. Talk to some guys from Europe. Two years ago in Ireland I had a diesal Golf. Ran forever. Gas was expensive but only had to get gas twice in 1200 miles of driving. Diesal engines last forever. I have been told that the Diesal engines in MAC Trucks could last a million miles with standard care.

In the winter the car must be plugged in to prevent the jelling of the fuel, the "heaters" im pretty sure are called "glow plugs", and that whole 30 mins to warm up is more like 30 seconds, I dont know about Mac trucks but the 6.5L you turn the key halfway the glow plug light comes on and goes off in not even 30 seconds on the coldest of days. And i think it was around a $8,000 option because if kept up well it can last well over 200,000 miles, the Mac's are probably much more.

Yep
We are getting some diesel prototypes in soon. They will be much quieter, more powerful, less smoke and highly efficient.
Add this to the equation, my next project: http://smartplugs.com/
