Processor suggestions

Hey all!
I know that many of you are computer geeks. Don't take it as a insult, so am I. I am thinking that it's time for a new mother board and processor. I have a few in mind, but really know that one thing which could be a issue is price. Especially with with the P4 extreme chips. I know many of you have newer chips and would like to hear some feed back from you. Let me know what you think of these chips.

Pentium 4 560 3.6GHz LGA775
Pentium 4 3.4GHz Prescott
Pentium 4 3.4GHz 800MHz 2MB Extreme (To Much money)
Athlon 64 3800

Performance IMO. Intel is more expensive.

Tisk tisk, you've been brainwashed into thinking that faster clock speeds mean better performance.

The AMD chips are just as good as the intel chips because of better architeture.

Many time when I see two chips, one AMD one intel, in a deadlock for performance the AMD chip is ussually cheaper.

I say intel, not because of the chip itself, IMO they are nearly even in real world usage, but the chipset. I would rather have an intel chipset any day of the week.

AMD FX-53, on an NF3 platform, is currently faster than ANYTHING Intel offers for desktops (i.e. not counting server chips). However, the son of a bitch is expensive as hell.....

Ya but bullhead, how much faster is it? 5%, 10%? Could you really see its effect? IMO the biggest factor for gaming is the graphics card, go all out on that, not the cpu...

exactly. let's face it...the differences between a fast AMD or Intel processor aren't like night and day. you throw an x800 xt pe or a 6800 ultra in a system with a fast processor and you're gold.

Processor does count allot when you play games now.

Doom3 is p41.5Ghz MINIMUM. I think my system I have (when I get the new processor back from the RMA) would have a very hard time running it I think.

That only happens when you've had too much coconuts!

Intel chipset owns all, I trust their chipsets over anything out there.

As for chips, Intel are more reliable and stable IMO. Runs cooler too.
