I'm pretty sure I get much faster framerates in the doom3 demo on highest quality with AA and anti-aliasing off. o_O

they give people a general idea of how their system compares to others.

OMG QUICK DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL IF YOU HAVE A BETTER SCORE THAN SOMEONE ELSE, THAT MEANS THAT YOU ePENIS IS LARGER THAN THE GUY ON THE OTHER END OF THE MONITOR.

MAKE SURE TO RUB IT IN HIS FACE THAT HE IS A LOSER AND DOESN'T SPEND ENOUGH MONEY ON HIS COMPUTER. THIS CAN ONLY MEAN ONE THING::: HIS COMPUTER IS HORRIBLE IN EVERY ASPECT IF HE SCORES LOW ON 3D MARK.

Why so much hatred against benchmarks? They can be informative, entertaining, and more. If you personally don't want to spend your time with them, why bother insulting them? Are they important? Does it matter?

exactly.

also, many people use them to see if their PC is running as fast as it should, by comparing their score with someone who has a similiar setup.

they can be helpful, but I guess a few people here don't see it that way.
