Most driver updates are not needed, especially if you do not own a game where their are bug fixes and or the occasional large jump in performance.

lol
i agree, you don't have to upgrade EVERYTIME a new driver is released, but it's good to update occasionally. one of the catalyst updates a little while ago offered a 7% increase in DX9 speed which is a nice improvement

I have 4.6 currently.
Would I really benefit that much from updrading?

yeah the CCC is a piece of junk in it's current state. i'm fine with using the normal control panel until they fix all the bugs in the new one.
and I havent updated to SP2 yet either...I have heard too many people complaining that half their programs get messed up once they install.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This section provides answers to questions that users may have with regards to functionality of the ATI CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER.
Why is the device properties for my display device empty?
Performing a custom installation of the CATALYST™ software drivers and installing only the CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER currently results in the device properties for the display device connected not being populated.
How do I set independent refresh rates for clone mode display?
If you are using multiple display devices and want to set an independent refresh rate for the secondary display device, you must enter the display properties, set your desired refresh rate, followed by disabling clone mode and then re-enabling clone mode.
Why can't I see all display modes and refresh rates in the CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER?
The ATI CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER detects the monitor's capabilities for different display modes and refresh rates. The ATI CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER protects the user from inadvertently selecting a refresh rate and display resolution that is incompatible with the display device connected to their graphic card.
Do I still have access to the classic control panel?
This edition of the CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER includes the ATI classic control panel and it is installed as part of the display driver installation. However, the ATI classic control panel is non functional and is only available after the uninstall of the CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER.
How do I get overlay theater mode to work?
Overlay theater mode function only when clone mode is enabled. The Overlay Theater Mode setting are greyed out when the system is in single or extended desktop mode.
Why doesn't the CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER Help launch when I press F1?
In order to launch the CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER Help, you must click the lower right hand portion of the display while press F1.
What's the difference between stretch desktop and extend desktop when using a secondary display?
When stretch desktop is enabled, the multiple graphics adapter installed in the system will use the same frame buffer. This will make the Windows operating system appear as one large desktop image. You will notice that the Windows taskbar stretches across the entire desktop. When using extended desktop mode, the graphics adapters use different frame buffers. The operating system treats each graphic adapter as separate devices allowing for different refresh rates, color depths, and resolution to be set for each display device.
What do the small reset buttons do?
The small reset buttons found on some aspects allow the user to revert to their last saved setting.
What do the Large Default buttons do?
The large default buttons found on some aspects allow the user to revert back to factory default settings for that aspect page.
Do all Aspects have Default Settings?
Not all aspects have defaults settings. For instance; the Display Manager, Profile Manager, and the Hotkey Manager do not have default settings.
Where is the Graphic Hardware Information Stored in the CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER?
Graphic hardware information can be found by clicking Help in the CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER menu bar and selecting, Information Center. The Information Center provides information on the following:.
Graphics Hardware
Graphics Software
System Hardware
System Software
Are 3D Setting Available for Multiple Adapters?
Currently, all changes to the 3D settings are applied to both the primary and secondary displays.
Why is the Save button in the profile manager greyed out when I try to overwrite a saved profile?
In order for the Save button to become activated, you must first make a change within the saved profile. Example: deselect an option and then reselect that same option. The Save button is now active, and you can apply your changes.
Why is the CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER NOT appearing in the install list?
This issue is know to occur only when an ATI RADEON™ 7200 series and an ATI RADEON™ 9800 XT card is installed in the system.
When I select Video Settings, why are the options greyed out?
Video settings become active once a video stream is played. Once the CATALYST™ CONTROL CENTER detects a video stream, all video setting options become available
Why are my Hotkeys not working?
Currently Hotkeys only work if they are created using text only. If you have created Hotkeys using a combination of numeric digits and text, the Hotkey will not work
