Digitial Cable Packages

Postby MeatHead_NJ » Sat Jan 15, 2005 2:38 pm

Really off topic Digital Cable package Question:

Background:

I live in Jersey, Cablevison/Optonline being the provider in the area. I dumped them for TV (1999 due to Tv quality) after my first year of moving back for dishnetwork and have been paying a premium for Cable modem.

Now as a Christmas Present to me from my wife i just upgraded Dish Network to the 921 reciever HD and 2 tuners. Nice but loud fans.

Today some chick comes by the house and offers me a Come back to cable since you have internet with us package. The short is $100 dollars gets me all the channels, Internet, and Voice. (2 year price guarantee, month to month, extra leaseing for recievers).

Dollar wise it's a great deal.

Q: Anyone have one of these setups? How does your phone work. I had a friend who used Vonage for a while... It was okay but if he was downloading or Gaming while using the phone I would hear line quaulity drop and breakup till his data transfer stopped or lightned.

What does their ownership of the Knicks have anything to do with their services?

Cablevision's services are great.

over priced and terrible. When i got my modem i hadda wait like 6 weeks, when he came i said dont drill a hole we already have a hole did he listen, nope. Whenever one of my friends needs to get theirs fixed theyll be jockeying an antenna for a week.

Well, maybe where you live its that bad, but here it's great. I got my cable modems all started up and ready to go in less than 15 minutes (got one 2 years ago, and a second one a month ago). They don't even overload their network either. I've always had their maximum cable speeds through both modems (10mbit down, 1mbit up).

Every single time I've had to call Cablevision (maybe once or twice a year) they've always had my problems fixed the same or next day. They have never failed me, or my family.

Last I checked Cablevision doesn't use any antenna's :P

But the cable modem is well worth the money for the speeds it gives you.

Well having bell for the past..... 12+ months, the packages are good.

The packages for satillite TV+Cable modem/ broadband.

Well you have to buy the modem "DUH" that goes without a saying. The TV is good, good channel selection, considering you get what you order.

The 100 come back thing, im not to sure of.

ISP+ cable companies are to sketchy now a days.

You live in the states yes?

Whats wrong with Direct TV sattilite?

Thats like the best sattilite there is. On top of all; of that, if you can get your hands on a illegal card, then you pay buddy like 20- 60 bucks to get it re-charged every time it is knocked out. Hell i know buddy from like 7 years ago that has one of those big 10- 25 foot sattilite dish's with a whole FIXED chipset and has not had anyproblems to this day.

All in all, comming from that.... Enviorment?

Keep your ISP and TV provider seperate.

"Now as a Christmas Present to me from my wife i just upgraded Dish Network to the 921 reciever HD and 2 tuners"

So you still have the same provider/ bundle?

Digital cable and Sat are to differant things yes?

Sorry if it did not help, if it did well than great.

Davis,

Nothing wrong with Dish Network.

But $100 for Dig IO,Voice, and the ISP (that i already use them for) way cheaper then the Verizon,Dish,Optonline.

$600-$800 yearly savings (depending on equipment lease for DVR and extra Receivers). But i wasn't sure if it was worth tradining in everything and going that route.

I would have to Ebay the 921 just put me out $550.

If anyones interested in follow up... If not then move along. :) .

I'm having them install the Silver IO Package from Cablevision. The Promo Name was "Customer Winback".

In 2 weeks ill have both running in my house.
That was all the digital IO channels, HBO, encoure and Stars, and my Cable modem (reduced 20 bucks) for $79 (month to month contract 2 yrs lock on the price) an addtional +9.95 for a HD Dual tuner DVR and +$5 for a second IO Box.

My current experience with my new Dish 921 is dwindling. And im a 5 yr dishNetwork Customer: After problems that have been hard to TS it looks as if My UHF on the Reciever is screwed. Only my old DVR remotes from my 501 work, and that cause they work the recieve with the IR. In addtion i find the 921 to be very loud with its fans. Sure its under waranty but add the lack of HD at this time on dish. This would be the second time if had to send a DVR back within 30 days.

I'm still waiting on feedback from my alarm CO. to see if the VoIP can be used to communicate with the monitoring station.
even with a $15 phone line charge i wind up saving 50 bucks a month by switching.

If anyone has had personal experience using the VoIP rig they use for converting the whole house id be interested in hearing.
