Amazing Footage; Iraq
Watch this entire video, it's about 4 minutes long. At about 1:30 things get interesting. This was a little report on American Soldiers on the hunt for IED's.
should work; video here
Should also mention no one was killed or seriously injured.

We should definitely learn lessons from this conflict and design some new tools. I know I've seen cool stuff with robotics --picture that robot from that movie 'Short Circuit' (that robot that ran around saying #5 is alive, no disassemble) with a shotgun or rifle on it arm. Cool stuff.
But it looks like we need a simple, remote controlled version of a heavy duty forklift . Put cameras and a remote arm on it as well. Let soldiers stand back and remote control the thing, have it examine small rubble on the roadside, or even pick up a car and carry it way, way off the road into a safe area.

I watched a segment on some of the new technologies soldiers are using in Iraq. They had some pretty cool things.
I think with car bombs though, like you said there has to be a way to better solve those bad situations. I think the bomb squad here usually will blow the suspected bomb up in a detained area. Maybe if they could somehow do that there or like you said bring it to a safe area.

that was realy stupid idea push that car with hummer,
driver was lucky he walk out alive.(unprofessional approach)
but nice action video
sorry for english
It may seem stupid but Im not sure what other options there are for situations like that. The car has to be moved away from that road so if it is detonated there aren't any casualties. The road they were on is a busy road. The only other option I think they had was to blow the sucker up from a far distance. The driver is lucky to walk away. Thank god he didnt try it with an H2, but with an armored hummer

I hate to use a word as harsh as 'stupid' 'cause I mean the soldiers no disrespect. Regardless of any political feelings about Iraq, I want our soldiers coming home in one piece. That being said, we pay a lot in taxes primarily because we want our soldiers to be high tech and not get killed or injured. It's not like we're some poor breakaway republic that can't afford equipment, and it's not like these bombs just started happening last week. So, I say to the govt, get cracking, get those guys everything they need, now and in the future. In WWII, a company called Willeys Overland designed the Jeep and won the govt contract. When W.O couldn't keep up the production, the govt stepped in, and made the big US auto companies (all of them) start up a production line of Jeeps. Didn't matter who owned the contract, didn't matter what the auto companies wanted to do, we needed it, we made it happen. That's the spirit, IMHO.
Good video BTW

Well, it's kinda tough on the whole 'winning of hearts and minds' plan if you blow up some Iraqis car because it stalled out on the side of the road. But I would prefer that over pushing it with a Humvee. It's cheaper to reimburse the guy (if it turns out there's no bomb) for their car than blowing up a Humvee and possibly killing a soldier.

Hey, you try to fund a high tech military when you're a breakaway republic! Some of those former Soviet satellite states face the worst of all worlds: they're poor and they live next the countries that Russia pissed off during the Cold War.
