2.5 gigapixel photo

Postby Spirit of Me » Sat Sep 24, 2005 7:39 pm

Old news but some may have missed this...

The 2.5 gigapixel photo
TNO has produced the largest digital panoramic photo in the world. So, what do we mean by large? After all, modern consumer cameras can easily take a picture with 5 million pixels. Well, we are talking about a photo of completely different dimensions. One with 2.5 billion pixels - that's 500 times more pixels. If this photo were printed, it would measure 6.67 m by 2.67 m (300 dpi). The photograph shows Delft and its surroundings in the autumn of 2004. It was taken from the top of the Electrical Engineering faculty of Delft University, at a height of about 100 m, by TNO.

Yeah, but it's getting ready to change for you after the new year. You should get the Kingsport/Johnson City area in 3 meter by February if all goes well.

Some photos of some surface mines went public this summer in the middle part of WVa but as with most mines there's not much to see there.

Did you see Mountain Lake northwest of Blacksburg? Now that's nice resolution there. You can see all the sites from where they filmed Dirty Dancing at the resort.

I'll go look for the lake. i don't know if you know Xenius but
he is a long time regular of ECGN, now a member of the
Glory Of War bunch of smackers :) (they are long time
friends). He is a student at Blacksburg, he may be interested
to know we have hi-res pictures of his area.

Who paid for that I wonder?

Mountain Lake is at: 37~21 North 80~32 West

Hard to believe it's on top of a mountain.

From what I'm told, Indiana University using Federal Grants had low flight photos taken of the entire state for agriculture research.

Google has some and is getting ready to add some more 1&2 foot photos to the collection. Soon you'll be able to see if the local 7-11 has Miller in stock :D

I have looked in my area and its odd, so many small lakes
at the top of the bigger mountain ranges. Maybe some
Geologists can explain that for us.

Some day soon when you look up you should go ahead
and smile, because you might be on candid camera :)
