All things Music

Postby -HaVoC- » Tue Dec 13, 2005 7:45 pm

I felt we needed a place to post our music related thoughts.

A new band I was thinking of seeing. I'm no pro musician but I would say they have a reggae back beat with a smidgen of pop jazz and some college bar sound things kind of going on. What do you guys think?

HELL YES! Another nice pick Havoc. I just was at their concert on November 12th at Niagara University. Truely a rocking band. Awesome concert, it was general admission so I got their early and got front row. If you get the chance to go see them in concert, it is definitely worth it.

Based on that description I think I want to beat them to death with one of their own legs...

Check the site parrot, it has I think most of their music right there to stream in real time.

That was where you lost me, with the Jazz...

Pop jazz Parrot. I merely mentioned it because they have a sax player. The reason and my assessment are both pointless. Listen to it.

I'm at the old fart period of my life where I don't look to new music, I look backward at the music I dismissed when I was younger, or came out before my time. I'm starting to check out....Steely Dan. They sound kinda like elevator music at times, but something about them is just interesting to me right now.

You'd probably also enjoy early Chicago.

I'm almost never a fan of "modern" music. Maybe a song or two will slip through, but overall I don't like current hits.

The tenor sax player brings a whole new dimension to the band. He seems un-needed and useless in some of their songs but I don't think it would be the same without him.

O.A.R. used to tour a bit around here before they were big. I can't stand them, along with most of the new "music". About the only thing good out there imo is radiohead, and they've been around since the early nineties. personally i'm a huge grunge fan, with the exception of Nirvana (yuk). Faith no more and mr. bungle though are probably my favorites. also i wouldn't be able to funktion without the jazz classics like Charlie Parker, John coltrane, Miles davis, thelonius Monk, etc. i'm starting to get into more indie music lately too, but being a picky music person makes it hard to find anything new that i like :(.

I generally don't like anything that makes the charts. That might change now they are included downloaded tunes in the charts over here. I am hoping it with break the teenage girl hold on the chart and allow some good non 'boy-band' style music to get through...
