King Kong, anyone see it

Postby cavalierlwt » Mon Jan 02, 2006 7:25 pm

I was little let down. I can't say it was a bad movie, but I can't really recommend it in a way. Especially if you are thinking of bringing a kid.
I liked the previous versions since I was a kid, but this version was just too dark, sad, and in a way, scary. King Kong is by it's nature kind of sad, but this version is just non-stop sadness, death, battles with dinosours or creepy crawly things. There is just no sunshine in this movie.
Oh well, that's my take. Anyone else see it?

It was OK. Glad i saw it in the theaters, much of the effects looked good on the big screen. I wont buy it when it comes out on DVD... there really hasn't been shit that has come out lately that i want to go see.

Good, not great, someone should tell Peter Jackson films can be less than 3 hours long. The problem is Kong takes so long to appear, but when he is on screen, he's on too much.

He cut it by 2 hours. It would have been 5 hours long. My thouhgts on it were good. I liked it. Peter Jackson's films in my opinion are awesome. I really liked it. Kong looked real and not just a computer generated creature that you know isn't real. He actually looked real.

I'm probably being crusty, but I remembered liking the story when I was a kid. This movie, I don't think I would take a kid to.

I know my brother brought his kids to see it and they both fell asleep and missed alot of it and when kong finally died he was crying...It was really a crappy way of coming out of the thetre you know...Everyone was sad and gloomy and I heard a parent behind me explaining to their children why King Kong died, and it was just really heart breaking...Really makes you realize how bad we really are, to kill a creature so great like King Kong...

Too much of a downer for a kid.

I agree that I might not take a kid to see the new Kong, but I really enjoyed it and if you have any amount of interest in seeing it, I highly suggest seeing it in the theater and not waiting for DVD.

I liked it a lot. I am a biased big Kong fan though, since childhood. I thought the CG was great and lots of good action.
As far as the sadness of it all goes, well, it is a sad story. Even the original was way sad. If people never saw the original, this one would be considered great, as the idea would have been new.
The original was pretty sad at the end. Maybe even more sad than this one. With the planes attacking him and i remember Kong grimacing in pain and looking at the blood on his wounds in the original. And with the girl screaming for them to stop. Also, the musical score in the original was very dramatic with every time Kong was taking bullets. If you saw the original in the theatres today i think people would come out of the theatre just as depressed.
