Computer construction advice

Postby Ldsmith104 » Tue Feb 28, 2006 10:17 pm

I need to replace my dads desktop and I just wanted a good idea of mobo processor combo

would like on-board sound, and LAN

Not for gaming, office PC, word processing, email, web browsing, as of now he is using .....dare I say it, dial up I hope to be changing that soon.

I want to keep the whole thing under
$500 not including monitor, keyboard, mouse.

What I think I want so far

OS Windows 2000 pro (have this aready)
DVD burner
512 to 1gb ram
small HD 40gb?

Looks like a pretty solid choice for it's intended use. For anything other than playing games, it's hard to go wrong these days. So much power for so little money.

Already got your OS, but how about Office (I'm just assuming he uses MS Office)
You can get Student/Teacher versions for about $120, fully functional.
