Never got caught shoplifting.. thank god... my dad would have killed me. I had a remote control truck that needed batteries all the time so i started getting rechargables from radio shack. BUt with my $5 a week allowance it was taking too long so 1 day after school I went to radio shack with my backpack and kind of walked around until the guy wasnt looking. I put all the stuff i needed into the bag and went by the door. Jeez this was in 1985 and i remember it like it was yesterday. There was a guy right by the door playing a video game so I hung out there like I was watching him, and I was nervous that there was some kind of device on there so i took 1 out and threw it out the door to see if an alarm would go off. When nothing happened I hurried out the door and enjoyed countless hours of remote control fun.
When doing a TP job one time I was around the side of the house and I heard the screen door open and footsteps coming toward me real real fast. I dropped my stuff and took off, my friend and i were running and there was a line of bushes at the back of the house about 6 feet high. I had no idea if there was a fence behind the bushes but running at a full sprint you dont have time to think. I jumped right into the bushes, thankfully I landed on the other side on grass. Got up and ran through about 5 yards, never looking back. Dove under a huge pine tree, covered in dirt and now pine needles, I froze. 2 seconds later my friend shows up under the tree also. Hearts pounding we dont make a whisper for about 5 minutes. Another hour goes by and we dont make a sound, we saw people going by on the sidewalk looking around for us but after awhile we saw nothing so we came out and walked home, smiling and laughing about the bushes. If there would have been a fence there, god knows what would have happened cuz I ran full speed right into those bushes.
Funny part is my friend was always and still is to this day faster than me, but that 1 fateful night in 1988 he told me I passed him up and he couldnt catch me through all those yards.... guess I was more motivated.
