I think he'll get in... eventually. There is no way you can ignore the stats. If you don't ever vote him in, you don't vote in Bonds because it was proven he used steroids. You invite these guys into Cooperstown and you tell the fans exactly why they are there. They have the stats but they ended putting a black-eye on the baseball. The steroid era is now in place.
No need to pussy-foot around the subject because for the last 10 years the discussion of steroids has been prevalent in baseball...
There is a share of the blame that needs to get passed on:
The writers who vote on who gets into the hall of fame are idiots. They are acting like its their duty to keep the hall of fame clean when in fact they are the same bastards who glorified these men just 5-10 years ago.
The owners of the teams who shell out billions of dollars in payroll over the course of a decade on players IE: Mike Hampton, A-Rod, Gary Mathews Jr, Juan Pierre, Alfanso Soriano, Barry Zito, and Scott Rolen... they should share the blame. Who wouldn't look for an edge when an improvement in ability and power when the owners are passing out millions like they are ones at a strip bar?
The players of the team are cock-smokes for not ratting out the guys who really do cheat. Its ok for them to do it and not get caught they think but in all reality, they are as guilty as the guys who do cheat.
There are a lot of people to blame for the steroids "scandal" not just the guys who say "I'm not here to talk about the past."

Shows what kind of hypocrites the sports media are... When he was playing, they said he and Sammy were the best things for baseball - brought the fans back with their offensive production... Now, he's not good enough to get their votes?
Also, what rules did he break? When he retired, MLB didn't have rules against nor did they test for steroids. Andro was available over the counter just like whey protien, multivitamins, creatine, ...
Finally, it shows that, in baseball, if you're suspected of taking performance enhancing drugs, you are branded. In football, you get a 4 game suspension then you get voted into the pro bowl...
Cal Ripken and Tony Gwynn deserved their spots.
Oh, hey! I hit 1000 posts....

Bonds apparently doesn't give a shit whether he fails a drug test or not now. Fuck him, he's the worst stain on the sport.

nice 1000th post woff!!!
The thing is Big Mac always said when he was playing that baseball wasn't his life. He didnt have baseball stuff all over his house etc.... and he was always a big guy, even when he was a rookie he was big. Everyone said he was a workout freak all the time.
Bonds was a wispy base stealer, then turned into a hulk. I think all Big Mac had to do was say i didn't do it (ala Rafy P) and all would have been fine with him as everyone loved Mac. He was never the "bad guy" or bad team guy, or a "me" guy like Bonds.
Did he do it?? Tough to say.
I am not McGwire's ass, I can't tell you what has been put in there.
For some reason baseball's records are put in a higher category than other sports, cuz its america's pasttime. You are right whoever said it about Merriman, he is still going to the pro bowl, cuz football is so aggressive, they are given a pass.

If they weren't illegal not taking them would be detrimental to your career. Seriously you can't blame people for taking steroids if there is no rule to prevent them because if they don't and everyone else does then they are gonna lose out.
Taking them with a ban in place is different cos that's cheating.
