What is it with mail-carriers in Canada?
http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/americas/05/04/scary.cat.reut/index.html
When are they going to accept that they've got a job to do? Sure the cat thats "threatening" is de-clawed and its docile attitude makes for an explosive combination, but thats just part of the job.

I have an uncle that was a mail-carrier on Long Island, NY. The stories he has. Like going out looking for a guy that didn't come back in a snow storm around Christmas. They found him, he was so drunk he passed out up against a bush and was being covered in snow with only with push cart showing.
I bet he has seen mail-carriers deal with "threatening cats" in their own way.

Ultra-unionized state employees.

Next time you feel like bashing unions, consider some of the things they are responsible for.
child labor laws
the 8 hour work day
overtime pay
holidays
vacations
the right to organize
social security
equal opertunity employment laws
work place safety laws
unemployment insurance
maternity leave
My wife and I are both union members, and proud of it.

Those are the good effects. I think you forget some.
Also, where I live, and particularly at the work place we're talking about, the situation is quite different from what you have in the US. In the 60s and 70s we went straight from employee-slave to employee-king.
As in many cases, one exxageration led to another.
There were compelling reasons for having unions, then the unions went too far and now a unionized employee can do pretty much as he pleases and there isn't much a boss can do against that.
