Cheese rolling

Postby SavageParrot » Wed May 30, 2007 10:20 am

Went to see this at the weekend. For those of you not familiar with the habits of English yokels this basically involves heading to the steepest hill around and lauching a circular cheese down the hill followed by a horde of yokels who have to try and catch the cheese. Round here they have been doing it for more than 400 years :)

It is needless to say painfully funny or just painful if you are taking part.

The Japanese have been doing something similar to this, too...for 1200 years.

It is called "Onbashira" and it involves straddling a huge log and riding it down the hill.

Many videos are available on You Tube, etc... Here is one, for example:

Crazy.

lol the year befor last you'd have loved it yoop they had 17 people hospitalised and actually ran out of ambulances. As it's a good 15 miles from the nearest hospital they actually had to set up a kind of triage area :D
