NEW YORK (CNN) -- A computer simulation of the September 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center, posted on the Web site YouTube by Purdue University researchers, shows how hijacked planes crashed through the twin towers, stripping fireproofing materials from the steel columns and eventually leading to their collapse.

The 3-D animation, part of a Purdue study that took two and a half years to complete, will hopefully help engineers design safer buildings, researchers said.

it's not a propaganda video.. it was made by Purdue University researchers based on scientific data and computer simulation models. That's what is so interesting about it.

"Mete Sozen, Purdue's Kettlehut Distinguished Professor of Structural Engineering and a principal investigator on the simulation project, says the researchers worked for years and used the best computing resources available to recreate the event.

"To estimate the serious damage to the World Trade Center core columns, we assembled a detailed numerical model of the impacting aircraft as well as a detailed numerical model of the top 20 stories of the building," Sozen says. "We then used weeks of supercomputer time over a number of years to simulate the event in many credible angles of impact of the aircraft." "

Because it is so hard to believe that a 757 loaded with jet fuel crashing into a building at 500+ MPH would do enough damage to bring a building down.

These bizarre conspiracy theories about 9/11 make me chuckle. In life invariably the simplest solution in the right one and the simplest solution is that the planes caused the collapse. Any other suggestion is pretty much a waste of time, there's no evidence to support it and frankly considering everything was essentially atomised in the collapse there's not likely to ever be any.

What it boils down to is that while they might have built in every concievable safety measure for the buildings no-one ever thought a plane that big would ever slam full speed into the side of them.

Giant conspiracies are horseshit. I don't care if you have the brains of Einstein and the leadership of Patton, it's simply impossible to get hundreds, perhaps thousands of people to coordinate a massive event and not have it either
A) Go off track due to unforseen events
B) Have it found out because about 50% of people can't keep their mouth shut for more than a few years.

If 9/11 were a conspiracy of anything other than 19 crazy bastards, we would be seeing about 25 people already who were *part* of the operation blabbing about it. Hell, Clinton couldn't get a blowjob from chubby intern without the world finding out, and he was about as slick as they come. Some of you guys give the government waaaaaay too much credit.
