nice specs, is the board any good? other than that looks like an OK price, acer is rather generic but should be fine, any schmoe should piece a PC together correctly

I've heard Acer is having big time problems with Vista.

I think it's mostly with their laptops, but Acer is one major company actively campaigning agsinst Vista. If you can opt for (or finagle your own version) go for XP on it, or at least have that option to fall back on.

Also, they never mention the hard drive's interface or rotational speed (I just checked it and it is SATA). Now-a-days, you want SATA drives and a rotational speed of at least 5400rpm (if you get a bottom of the barrel 4200rpm drive you'll regret it).

Also the graphics card's memory is "semi-shared', which I believe is a sneaky way of saying it's an on-board adapter stealing up to 512MB of system RAM.

This is the computer that I have which is in the list you provided and I have no problem playing games from BF2142-Halo2, but you're still going to need a video card, and a monitor, so I hope this helps. As for video I'm useing an Ati x1300 but want a DX10 card.

Donkey,
Looks like Wes has the right idea, if you are up to building it yourself. DIY brand is always the best, because you usually buy better parts than in a mass-produced system with better drivers. Plus you keep rebuilding on the same platform and save some $ next time. My current case Antec1040B has seen 4 motherboards and 2 Power supplies. You will also learn a lot about your system.

Check out the thread in the BF2 section where people posted their rigs. You can see their complete build, then price it out. You can pm them to get their opinion on how their rig is. Don't build a Athlon 939pin rig the processors are not being made anymore. If you got AMD go with the AM2 pin format.

-I can see this now. A bunch of us techs helping Donkey over webcam...
