Horse Racing

Postby YOOPER » Sun Sep 16, 2007 6:55 pm

For those of you who know me, or talk to me on Vent, know that we have horses - both trail horses for riding and a few race horses as well.

Well, this weekend was the biggie for the race horses. It was "The Finals", and the bookies had our horse a favorite for 2nd or 3rd place in "the big race".

Well, long story short - we won. Holy f'in sh!t we won!

It was a photo finish. We just barely got 'er by a nose!

We are pretty freakin' excited! Hell, even 2nd place would've been cool, but the prize money for first place was 10's of thousands more than 2nd!!!! :D

We're psyched. What a perfect way to end a weekend of horse racing!

(BTW - our other 2 horses came in 1st and 4th in their races, too...but this one...this one was the biggie!)

HATERS! :P

Nah - if you add up all the money spent on boarding the horse, training it (gotta pay the trainer), and paying the jockey, well, we just came out ahead (for the season), but certainly not but a ton...

Either way, we're still pumped up! People brought horses in from all around the U.S. for just this one race. We live an hour away from the track - practically a home town win!

:D

Oh look while you were bragging here another one of your patients died!

No problems though I bet you own a share of the funeral home as well ;)

Do you by any chance drive an SUV? :D

Thanks Chick! (and all the other congrats).

We're still beaming over this win.

Did you see that video I sent you? The trainer's daughter is yelling "Gooooooo Chiiiick!!! Ruuunn!!!! CMON GO CHICK!!!!!!!!! WHOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!"

Strawflyn Chick won her race by a couple horse-lengths. One hell of a fast horse. The horse above that won the big-big race is Outside Verde... Our third horse, Mozzne, got 4th place in her race...

When I get home I can post some pics of (the horse) Chick. ;)

PS - Glad my phone call helped out, even if it was just a little bit!

Parrot: That's the beauty of my particular specialty...when I go home, I'm not tied to the hospital at all. I can leave work at work, and enjoy my time at home. :) And do I drive an SUV? Depends on what day of the week it is! :P

Chick: As promised, here is our other horse Rare Strawflyn Chick winning by a mile:

Pfft I'll give NHS doctors respect not your filthy private healthcare system. I don't give injury lawyers respect so what makes you lot different? :bazooka:

Well, for starters, I save lives for a living. I don't think many lawyers can claim they've literally held someones heart in their hand and pumped it for them. I have. Many times.

Besides, one shouldn't generalize. Just because I don't practice medicine under the umbrella of a national healthcare system doesn't make me a bad doctor. I think what I do for a living is respectable.

As far as socialized medicine in the US...well...do you really think the US Govt can run the healthcare system? I don't. The US Govt has proven time and time again that they have trouble running just about everything (the fairly recent events with FEMA come to mind).

Unfortunately, the insurance companies essentially run the healthcare system in the US. BUT - once again this is where I find yet another benefit in my particular specialty of medicine. I DON'T have to get pre-approval from a damn insurance company before I order a CT scan, or an ultrasound, or give a certain drug, or...whatever. All the rules change for emergency medicine. In just about all other scenarios, one must convince an insurance company that something is "medically necessary" before it is done. Pfffft...let the doctors who are standing next to the patient decide what is best for the patient, not some insurance company exec 1,000 miles away. Fortunately, ER docs have sucessfully argued this exact point...but only because no insurance company wants to take the blame for someones death because they didn't approve a CT scan for a suspected subarachnoid bleed.

Ok, done ranting. Sorry to all those who didn't care to read it.

Anyway - Thanks Puzzy! I never knew how exciting horse racing was until I met my wife and got involved with horses. She used to compete with barrel racing and what-not, and it won't be long until my daughter does the same!

Chick - glad you liked the video! I knew you would!
