Did you like UT?
If so, you will like UT2003.

Errr... I'll have to disagree. I loved UT back in the day and was so excited about UT2003 - but I was very disappointed. I would have to modify the above advice to say

"If you love(d) Quake, you will love UT2003" Because they've made it play exactly like Quake and much less like UT.

But I can say the engine (sound, graphics, etc) is amazing. What is more amazing is that other companies have taken the UT2003 engine and made fabulous games (Raven Shield and America's Army are two examples).

I would have to concur with Freedom on this one - UT2K3 doesn't resemble UT at all. The engine is pretty incredible though - especially with everything cranked and AA running - visually, that's about as good as it gets (until Doom III anyway).

???? I'm not sure what you mean by small maps. I've played all the maps that came with the game.

Sorry.
I have always played GMC maps. Giant Map Clans.
All the maps we play are custom made and are scaled to be huge. The best way I can explain it is to think of your player the size of a mouse in a enormous room. Always plaed with the ESR as the weapon of choice.
When playing this style of map the main difference in the game is the graphics and the sound as you said.
Try this UT server sometime: 64.37.227.150
Then try this UT 2003 server: 64.37.227.151

Gotcha - I understand.

Either way, I'm just very unhappy with the direction they took UT2003. But to each their own.

If you like that style, it's a good game. Try the demo before buying.

Completely agree with you Freedom. I was hooked on UT before I joined ECGN, and had really high expectations for UT2003, but when I got it , I was pretty disappointed. For example: I used to move myself with the Transloc a lot, for getting on higher grounds n' stuff, but now they set a limit on it, that sucks. Also you're right about the "Quakish" style they put into it. The UT addicts were waiting for a more UT style game...

I was into the custom maps and mods on UT, that made the gameplay very entertaining. Maps like Bloody Blocks, Bathroom, Kitchen, even the very small Abomination(ever played this map with 30 players? LoL). Mods like Strangelove V2 (that where I got the flying skills ;) ), custom models (Homer), custom voicepacks (Our UT community made a lot of them ourselfs)...

well, ut2003 it is not the best game I have even seen , though the engine is amazing, it is very well done other games with the same engine.... Unreal 2, raven shield, splinter cell, postal 2 (I have not seen postal2 yet)
wasn´t america´s army developed with the original UT engine?, it was released before ut2003

The translocator is a must in a giant map, forgot to mention that and also low gravity. Game speed is also higher (around 155) This is from the readme for a mutator that we run:

UT Translocator for UT2003
by -=Musc@t=-
Released: September 30, 2002
updated: October 7-8, 2002
http://ww.domaindlx.com/muscat
===================================

Author: -=Musc@t=- (unrealmuscat@yahoo.com)

--->Translocator<---
Allows unlimited translocation like UT (same fire rate) and replace the UT2003 Translocator sounds by UT translocator sounds........

You can find it, maps, mutators, skins, and soundpacks for both UT and UT2003 here:

Candyman's FTP

Freedom, RC and Floppy have made good points that I have heard alot of others discuss about the game. I have played these games with these settings for so long that I don't think about them in an "out of the box" manner. Do try the demo first.

Sounds fine, man, do you have something like the old sniper rifle on UT, I really miss it much
