Freedom, how easy was it to overclock your 9800? I have a 9700np that needs a lil taste of overclocking. I know theres several guides to do it, but I don't know if its WORTH doing.
Do you notice any performance increase when you overclock? If I do, I want to be able to see a difference.
How much higher did you set the core/mem? I don't want to burn it up...

shock when it comes to overclocking video cards it is really the luck of the draw. One 9800 might overclock really well, while another might only do half that.
as far as the actual overclocking process goes, just increase the core/mem speeds little by little (5-10mhz). After every increase, test the settings out by playing some games or running a game benchmark a couple of times. If you dont have any problems, then overclock a little higher. Keep doing that until you start to see graphical abnormalities(artifacts) or instability. Once you see a problem, then just drop the core/ mem down a little bit. That is the farthest your card will overclock while using stock cooling. if you follow that process you wont burn out your card.

Shock, do exactly like Edogg said, just do it little by little. Make sure to run a graphically intensive game as a test. BF is a good one for that.
You should be in good shape with your 9700 NonPro because you have better Samsung RAM on it than I do on my 9800 NonPRo. But anyway, after reading several theads on the subject on http://www.rage3d.com I found that the memory can be clocked quite a bit. I use the rage3d tweak program to adjust the clock settings. I was able to up the memory by 20% and the core by 10% without any adverse effects. I then backed it down to 15% and 5% respectively. My 3DMark03 scores run at 5000 at stock and between 5500 and 5700 OCed. A 10% to 15% increase. Not bad. I'm sure I could get more but, like you, I'm relatively risk adverse.
