I'm very curious to see the direction PJ goes after the deviations from the book in TTT...

These are the best movies to come out in I don't know how long... instant classics...

Thanks for the link Folic :D

For some reason I've never really gotten into these lord of the rings movies. I find them quite boring actually. The only parts of the movies I pay attention is where there is a lot of fighting. The huge war in the last one was quite amazing I must admit.

I'm also very obsessed for many obvious reasons. But in regards to the deviations, I've read that Peter Jackson has stated that The Two Towers was the farthest away from its respective book (also, alot of those deviations will be fixed in November with the release of the extended edition. Primarily Faramir). He also said The Return of the King is better than the first two combined. Suffice it to say, I'm really waiting for it.

Rule,

I have to agree that he did deviate from the books. If he hadn't, each movie would be almost five hours long instead of three. :D

However, he did stay completely true to the spirit of the books. :)

Oh, I don't have a problem with the deviations, just curious to see what they will be... some things must obviously be left out for editing concerns... Tom Bombadil for example...

But the part of Faramir and the hobbits going to osgiliath is quite a departure from the book (not just an omission)... I'm just curious to see how PJ resolves these issues since all of the machinations of the plot were carefully tied together by Tolkien in the book... he spent a LOT of time making sure everything tied together and made sense... For Jackson to depart from the plot in this way is a bold move...

I'm not one of these types that says, "Well, it wasn't exactly like the book, so it sucked!" But on the other hand, a LOT of movies have been ruined by deviating from the book a lot. ("The Firm" being the worst example I can think of...)

Remaining true to the spirit of the book is more important, and I too believe Peter Jackson has succeeded marvelously in that regard...

"Well, we're not just gonna let you walk out of here."
"Who's we sucka!?"
"Smith and Wesson and me."

Wrist, I know one of the things supposedly left out of ROTK is the very very end of the book, where Frodo et al actually go back to the Shire and deal with the issues there. I'm really pretty irritated that it was left out, since it seems the best way to tie up the whole story - paints the hobbits as folk who rise to do their duty and "shape the fortunes of men," then just go back to their simple ways.

But no. It ain't in there. Rats.

Yeah, I heard that too... I liked that in the book too, because when the hobbits came back, they were the only ass-kickers around, and rallied everyone to their cause...

Maybe there will be something different but similar in the movie?
