How to Recovering files after deletion

Postby S.S.Lazer » Fri Aug 08, 2003 12:26 pm

Hey i formated everything on my computer unfourntly i forgot to back up my documents, resume and stuff, i need them. I know that information isnt really off your hard disk, untill you write of the same sector many times. Thats why FBI can take your drive and recover information from it. What program do i use to do this??? Anyone know anything about this?PLEASE help:confused: and you may recieve a:beer: that will make you :freak:

Ughhhhh....... if you formatted, they're gone.

The FBI's so-called computer skills are from from what most people think. They can recover deleted files, but only if they were deleted from within the OS. Since most computer users consider deleted as gone forever, the FBI doesn't have much of a problem if the file structure is still intact.

Sorry Lazer, them files is gone.

Actually, it depends on the type of format that you did.

If it is the plain vanilla format that everyone tends to use then it is possible to recover the files if you have not done anything else to the disk drive.

The format only marks the 'index' entries for each file on the partition as deleted. It does not actually do anything else to the data. There is software out there that can bring back your files. However, I do not recall and names off hand. Just use Google to search the Internet and you will find something useful.

Exact same thing I was gonna say.

When I wipe all the pr0n off my HDD, i use a Government wipe ( DoD 5220.22-M from the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual )

It writes three different hexadecimal values over the old file data, and then verifies that there were no disk errors during the third hexadecimal value writing process.

I can have it repeat it over 100 times just to make sure its all gone ;)
