Help Disabiling Integrated sound

Postby mattdeez » Fri Dec 19, 2003 1:44 pm

Hey I have a dell dimension 4300 w/ soundMax integrated sound, windows xp home OS.

I just got a new soundcard...and I need to disable the integrated chip.

Is it going to BIOS and disabiling it...and presto.??

Any help is appreciated.

I do not think Dell allows you to get intot eh BIOS, but if so, that is the best way to do it. Yo can also do it in Windows under the device manager.

that's pretty bad if Dell doesn't allow you to get into the BIOS. money grabbers

restart your computer and hold down the F8 key. it will then (hopefully) bring up the bios, and find the option for onboard sound (soundmax). disable it and restart your PC, then install the drivers for your soundcard.

when i opened bios, i didn't see the option for audio of any kind. So, I disable the audio device through Computer Manager.

Installed the new card and drivers...and it worked.

Sounds much better.

Thanks for you guys help

That's one way to do it yes.

Dell's access to the BIOS is VERY limited to say the least.

Well I was able to disable onboard audio in bios on work dell PC.
But not sure on the one you got.

Sorry I only build my own AMD powered PC's for home, I wont buy a dell or other OEM type box.

P4 2.4 Ghz, 1 Gig PC2100 DDR ram, GeForce4 Ti4200, Audigy2 platinum soundcard, 17" Monitor, 120 watt speakers, 80&120GB Hard Drives
