Star Wars Episodes 7, 8, 9?

Postby Folic_Acid » Thu Jan 15, 2004 4:54 pm

Seems that TheForce.net is reporting that the actor who played Chewbacca will appear in the upcoming Episode 3. However, it also seems that his contract stipulates that he must also appear in Episodes 7, 8, and 9! A sequel trilogy? Who knows?

Read here.

Ugh, half of me wants them to take another stab and do it right for episodes 7, 8, 9 (assuming they're making them), and the other half just knows it'll be another let down.

Star Wars was originally 12 episodes, then cut down to 9. Lucas has said that 7, 8, 9 would never be filmed.

OMG! Star Wars directed by Spielberg? Now that would be something special... Lucas should not have directed these last ones himself, he should be there in the creative process, but he needs to have someone around who can temper some of his more out-there ideas...

As an example, Empire Strikes Back was directed by Irvin Kirshner, and that is the best one...

I'm excited about episode 3 though... hopefully they won't cut any corners and make it very dark and foreboding... and Darth Vader should be able to do a "force crush" move or something... ever seen that cartoon "Bambie vs Godzilla"? Something like that :D

I think my main problem with the new ones was the script. In the original trilogy, Lucas wrote the story, someone else wrote the script, and with the except of "A New Hope," someone else directed. He took a step in the right direction with attack of the clones, but it was only one step, and it wasn't very far...

please. if the demand is there and there is money to be made, he will do it, hence the talks recently at the Jedi RANCH of 7, 8, 9 the past few months.

I agree with Rule Empire was the best movie.

I have been severely dissapointed in 1 and 2. Return of the Jedi absolutely rocks if you cut out every single scene on the surface of Endor. It was originally suposed to be the Wookie homeworld and that would have rocked. I could buy into Wookies wiping out Imperial Legions, not muppet teddy bears. Since then its been the Jim Henson muppet future and quite frankly stinks.

Now Spielberg doing 7 8 9 sounds extremely intriguing but he better do the next Indiana Jones movie first!

I loved Episode's 4, 5, and 6. Episodes 7, 8, and 9 would be awesome. If anyone reads the books, there's a lot of interesting things that 7, 8, and 9 could do.

I'm a huge Star Wars fan. I'm not terribly excited by this. Yeah, I've seen each of the movies (including Menace and Clones) at least 30 times each and I love the plot of the prequels, the acting, directing, and actual writing are all subpar. And I don't even need to say how awesome the special effects are, although these days that doesn't win a film much.

I'd love to see another trilogy of course, but I really don't want Lucas to direct. Yeah, the story is his and he can do whatever he feels he should do. But he's not the best director, he's famous for just sitting there fingering his chair as stuff goes on, leaving stuff mostly to all his aides and second units. He's an okay writer, but it's his ideas overall that have won the day. The visual production as a whole, not just the directing.

I mean, even the Original Trilogy had some pretty bad acting and writing at times. So it's nothing new.

But what I'm most worried about is it screwing up all the established fiction created by novels and video games and stuff, created by other authors. Lucas has been known to not give much of a care for the Expanded Universe (although that seems to have changed slightly with the inclusion of stuff like the swoop bikes in the movies, and the comic book character Aayla Secura in Episode II). So, it might just create problems for fans of Star Wars novels and comics, in terms of continuity.

It might be cool if they adapted some of the novels into the sequel trilogy, or at least parts of the stories. Or not.

Then again even for me the movies are above the novels. They are meant to stand along, and everything else just compliments their story. So, if they screw everything else up in the established stories then let it be. It wouldn't be anything new to long winded story arcs.

I wouldn't get my hopes up for another trilogy though. It's possible, and Lucas changes his mind about stuff every other day, but it'll be awhile before it comes to a head.

Oh, and I just thought of this. If they want to use Luke and Leia and Han and gang as the main characters again, does that mean casting the same actors? The story would have to be set at least 25 years after Return of the Jedi then, since the actors have changed a lot since filming of those movies. And Star Wars has always been awesome with keeping the same actors in the same roles (when its obvious, exception being Anakin Skywalker of course).

There was only one good book series, and that was written by Zahn(or however you spell his name). Those three books could easly be 7,8,9. Of course, I am sure not one of the original main character actors would sign up, especially Ford who wanted Solo killed in Return of the Jedi.

Lucas ruined Star Wars before 1 and 2. Those special editions? Han being shot at first in the catina? WTF was that about? Return of the Jedi was where the series all started to become too 'kiddy.'

Empire is by far the best, and one of the few sequels to actually be better than the first movie.

Few movies have a good sequel, even fewer can be good after that sequel, as Lucas has shown with Star Wars.

As far as 7,8,9 being made, it took Lucas over 2 decades to do the first trilogy, he will be dead before the last trilogy is even written.

Also, it annoyed me that on the 70's Show last night, Eric was showing his dad the NEW SW firgures as being from that time period, not the original ones.
