Licence Revoked.

Postby 007 » Wed Feb 11, 2004 11:10 pm

As now reported in many news sources around the World (including: Chicago Sun Times & MKKBB), CBn can now confirm from its own sources close to the negotiations for Bond 21 that Pierce Brosnan will not be returning to the role of James Bond.

Brosnan had previously stated that he was good for five, perhaps six films, tying him with Sean Connery’s term with Eon. This no longer seems to be case.

Brosnan has stepped into the role of 007 four times (Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day). Each film he made did better in the global market than the previous one, with DAD being second only to Thunderball in adjusted total worldwide gross. Die Another Day also saw the theme song nominated for two Grammy Awards and featured an acadamy award winning actress (Halle Berry) as the main Bond girl.

However, Brosnan's term was not without controversy. Some fans felt that Bond had gone too far into the world gadgets and pop culture, while others complained about poor plots and dialogue. Brosnan himself was injured in each of the films he made, hurting his back in the final fight sequence of GE, having his face cut open in TND, getting burned in the back while filming TWINE, and most famously, hurting his knee while filming the hovercraft sequence in DAD.

Negotiations finalising Brosnan’s Bond 21 contract are said to have ceased, and the search for the next James Bond is well underway. Though no replacement has been found at this time, filming of Bond 21 is still reported to begin in early 2005. Eon Productions is said to be waiting to make an announcement until Brosnan’s successor is named.

But even when the sixth James Bond steps into the gunbarrel, for many Bond fans young and old, Pierce Brosnan’s tenure will cast a heavy shadow over those that follow for he succeeded in entertaining millions. CBn wish Mr. Brosnan all the best for the future, and all the best to the forthcoming Bond number six.

In my opinion it needed to be done. I think Goldeneye was the best of Brosnan and it was downhill after that. They went a little overboard with trying to appeal to younger audiences with the surfing and all. On a side note, you're all about James Bond aren't you 007?

Connery will always be the #1 Bond... Tomorrow Never Dies was really good IMO, TWINE sucked, I just didn't have that feeling of awe and hate for the main villains... Sophie Marceau and Robert Carlyle just didn't do it for me, they were wusses.

The flaw with Die Another Day was that how Bond was portrayed as so weak and not as agile or witty as he was in previous Bond films... It was good nevertheless, I just hated the Cuban sequences, couldn't understand a damn thing in theatres until I got it on DVD and read the sub titles during the Cuban parts.. lol

And I think in each and everyone of us, men especially, Bond is something we'd all like to be... hehe

(I love going up to the bar at a club and ordering a Vodka Martini, shaken not stirred.) :D

And God help us all if they get Hugh Grant to be the next Bond, he's the only big name with a Brit accent that can pull it off... hahahaha Or even Orlando Boom...sheesh! What other middle age Brit actors are there?

I know he's already been a Bond villain, but I think Sean Bean would do pretty well.

Damn right! :D

Also I agree with Buli about the surfing scene...The bullet in the gunbarrel scene also seemed out of place...

Moore was a horrible Bond, he made the character into a court jester, not a cold hearted killer.

The best Bonds are:

1) Connery
The original(well, original Brittish agent Bond) and best, who everyone will have to compete against.

2) Dalton
Yes, he brought back the cold hearted killer Bond, not the sissy one Moore turned him into. Licence to Kill was classic Bond, and one of the best Bond movies. IMO, LTK is second to From Russia with Love for best overall movie.

3) Brosnan
Sadly, bogged down by crappy scripts, or he would rank higher.

Sadly, he already has in the early 80's. It flopped(basicly a remake of Thunderball), and was the only movie made outside of the producers and MGM/UA, so it is nto considered part of the series.

UPDATE:

From http://filmforce.ign.com/bond/articles/492/492279p1.html?fromint=1

Reports of 007's demise exaggerated.

February 13, 2004 - It seems that recent reports of Pierce Brosnan's exit from the James Bond franchise were a bit premature. According to today's Variety, MGM has just renewed a first-look deal with Brosnan's Irish DreamTime production company – they're currently developing the action flick Mexicali and a sequel to The Thomas Crown Affair as star vehicles for Brosnan. More importantly, the trade adds that Brosnan will be back for a fifth turn as 007 and that Bond 21 is being readied for a November 2005 release.

Rumors of Brosnan's departure began surfacing several days ago in the Chicago Sun-Times and elsewhere. They peaked yesterday with fansite Commander Bond claiming negotiations for Brosnan's Bond 21 contract had ceased, and that the search for the next James Bond was well underway. They stated, "Though no replacement has been found at this time, filming of Bond 21 is still reported to begin in early 2005. Eon Productions is said to be waiting to make an announcement until Brosnan's successor is named."

The Sun-Times recently reported that "the producers of the 007 films will not pick up (Brosnan's) option to cast him in what would have been his final outing as the enduring British spy." An Eon spokesperson apparently confirmed the casting news, advising the paper that "we are always looking to target younger audiences. ... We want fans who will still be watching in 40 years."

What to make of all this? Well, it could've been a bit of hardball on the part of Brosnan or the studio. Leaking information like this to the press and trying to force another party's hand in negotiations is not uncommon. Regardless, it seems that we'll see Brosnan back as Bond at least one more time.

Brosnan next stars in New Line's romantic comedy Laws of Attraction, opposite Julianne Moore. He'll follow that with The Matador, for Stratus Films.

Nobody will ever replace Desmond...

Q: You see the gear lever here? Now if you take the top off you'll find a little red button. Whatever you do don't touch it!

Bond: Why not?

Q: Because you'll release this section of the roof and engage and then fire the passenger ejector seat. WHOOSH!

Bond: Ejector seat you're joking!

Q: I never joke about my work 007!
