I don't think so. They keep these low prices by paying extremely low wages and killing local small stores that form an important part of the community. It also spreads a dreary uniformity, killing local disparities that make cultural uniqueness.
Wal-Mart is a cancer.
Wal-Mart is a cancer.

They also own their own trucking system which keeps prices low. I think Austin has laws against these "all in one" stores and so does L.A. if I'm not mistaken. They definitely do kill small businesses though. You can go to any small town in Texas and theres a Wal Mart with a massive parking lot.

LOL U SAID WALLY WORLD

Either way yes Wal-Mart is a monopoly. I live in one of those little Texas towns that has a Wal-Mart, it's the only thing there; it's our mall.

People are even buying books there! Of course, they only keep books that appeal to the greater masses. So in a few years, no more libraries, and it's Wal-Mart who decides what's printed and what's not.
I never bought anything in a Wal-Mart, and if I can help it I never will. I also tore up my Costco card. I won't go to Home Depot anymore. I'd rather pay 2 bucks more for a hammer in the small hardware store in my neighborhood where the clerk knows me and we can chat.

Come on guys!
You are forgetting one important part of Wally World as far as entertainment goes! They censor their music and movies to ensure it matches what they consider "decent family (Walmart) values"

they got cheap toilet paper.
My wife worked there so I can tell some stories first hand. However I've worked for IBM and I can tell you about thier cheap asses too. I think every corporation has it's bottom line.
What we need to do is give tax breaks to companies that keep jobs here instead of those that are friends and have been run by Bush's folk.
And yes it's better to support the small guy. Too bad there aren't many left in between the strip malls.

I keep hearing this, but isn't the left's motto "tax breaks for the rich" their gospel? The bottom line is high tax rates hurt everyone, and taxing the rich CEO isn't going to put one dime in the employee's pockets. If you work for a small business, go to the owner and tell him you think he should pay higher taxes so you can get a raise. See how far that gets.
Ok, the "small" guy. I'm assuming that's referring to small business owners? Well, those guys are the "rich" as defined by Democrats. All we ever hear is blabber about corporate welfare.
Define rich. The top 1%, 5%, 10%? How about the bottom 50% pay 0% income tax. In fact, the earned income tax credit is nothing but resdistribution of wealth, aka Socialism. Remember the Democrats whining about the "poor" not getting taxcuts? THEY DON'T PAY TAXES.
I say there should be no income tax, or it should be the same amount for every taxpayer. Not graduated or by percentage, but enumerated, like sales tax (nobody favored). Government would not be able to bloat like it is now.
I know guys that own their own business and make 250k+....are they rich? Most would say so. Are they Bush's folks? Some say making 70k+ is "rich".
It's best said by Alexander Tyler:
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship.
===================
FYI, I am in total opposition to President Bush's domestic fiscal policy pertaining to Federal spending. If kerry gets in, it will only be worse.

DAmn I hate that

Yeah, I believe in the little guy, but globalization and conglomerates have really just taken over when it comes to prices which is what most people look at first before purchasing an item. I mean not all of us can afford to give an extra two dollars everytime we need a new item. Hammers of course being the exception since I'll only need one in my lifetime.

Well

I think I must say I completely agree with RCglider.
But you may have mistook HaVoC. He wasn't say give rich guys a tax break. He was saying reward the companies that keep jobs here so that they DO keep jobs here. Thats actualy a great idea methinks.
