Router config

Postby yaDad » Fri May 21, 2004 9:20 am

ATM I have my linksys 41 router set to DMZ my main box but i dont want that. Would some1 post a picture of their router setup like Chacal did in this thread: http://forums.powervs.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9647&highlight=router to give me a example to work off of.
first question....where does ASE go on the ports and all?
all of the terminology is very confusing.
I have not failed...I have just found 10,000 ways that don't work.

Check the bf server help thread on the bf1942.com forums. Lots of good info there. I don't remember the ASE port and I'm too lazy to look it up...

I DMZ myself depending on what I need to do. However, port forwarding is good too (sometimes I don't know what ports things need open, wish someone would document these types of questions).

You can find out what ports you need to open by running netstat -a at a command line before you start your app, and then run it again after you start it and note the changes

well dmz opens everything and then the fire wall closes everything back up i just find it easier to tell the firewall to allow such and such app rather then looking up which ports each app needs open

That's what port forwarding and triggering are for!!!! As Good mentioned - it's easy to find out which ports you need to open up.

All you have to do is change the ports winmx uses to send and receive - it's in the options for winmx. Then add those ports to your firewall settings as well.
