Go Flames!

Postby Colonel Ingus » Fri May 21, 2004 11:54 am

I am not a Flames fan but since Hockey is pretty much done and over with next year lets root for the Canadians!

Its pretty depressing for Canadian Hockey fan that this will be their first Stanley Cup team in 10 years? Lord Stanley wasn't an American.

Canadian Hockey team owners are tightwads and aren't willing to blow money on players like American owners and thus have less competitive teams as the norm. What about dem Nordiques :D? Look at the Flyers and the Lightning and see how many French Canadian names you can spot. If they would spend a little more money they could actually keep Canadians in Canada to play hockey! And what the hell is Tampa doing with a Hockey team anyway? That right there is disgusting!

So lets let them have one last blaze of glory prior to the disolution of the NHL due to greedy players and greedy owners!

GO FLAMES!

GO BOLTS!!!!!!!

Of course, if the officiating didn't SUCK in this series, Tampa would've already crushed Philly. Instead, the refs allow Philly to do most anything they want, including holding, throwing pucks into the tampa bench, and lots of cheap shots.........

We'll be seeing you damn Canadians soon :ar15:

I think Canada is pretty much a hockey farm for the US of A, that and European countries. ;)

Oh come on - your captain can't control himself either. The calls have been going both directions in this series.

Learn what hockey is then tell me what you think. Because Tampa cheapshotted Philly 3x more then we did. Martin St. Louis your best player and biggest asshole deliberatly tried to slash Zhamnov's hand when he lost his glove. No penalty called, and don't even get into coaches because Tortarella is just a jackass.

Hey Crypt, go fuck yourself. I do know hockey, even if I have lived in Fl my whole life, since my best friend (and damn near brother) grew up in NJ, played hockey as a kid, and is a huge devils fan. I didn't say we were 100% innocent, just that the officiating in that series sucked. So grow up, learn to respond in a more mature manner like RCinator.....

First of all, the Tampa fans can hardly sell out thier own building and it took Philly to come to town for them to do it.
There were hits going either way but the Tampa players really took runs and clearly left thier skates (which is a penalty) every chance they had. The last 2-3 games of the series, the refs were great. Almost a non factor. That is when a ref is doing a good job, when you don't notice he is even there. Let the players just play hard nosed hockey and let them police themselves.
The Flyers lost the series by one goal (which was a power play). If the Flyers could kill a damn penalty, we would have won the series in 6 games, easy.
I am not taking away anything from the Bolts, it was a good series and they played great, no doubt, and deserved the win. I personally don't think the city of Tampa deserved it, but the players did. But to say the Flyers had all the cheap shots is way off the mark. It went both ways.
Oh, and I am not biased.
Go Flames !!! (Although Iginla is an Ass for sitting out the beginning of the last season after having one good year, greedy F--k)

I thought the difference between CDN/US currency means that Canadian owners are actually coughing up more money to compete with the higher US dollar for players....correct me if I'm wrong though, because someone told me this a while ago and I have no idea if he were spouting bullshit or not

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/hockey/nhl/specials/playoffs/2004/05/26/bc.hkn.stanleycup.ratin.ap/index.html

NEW YORK (AP) -- Calgary's 4-1 win over Tampa Bay on Tuesday night tied for the lowest-rated Stanley Cup finals game on ESPN since 1990.

Game 1 was watched by an average of 1,013,000 people and had a rating of 1.1. Of the 34 Stanley Cup finals game the network has televised since 1990, only Game 2 of last year's series between New Jersey and Anaheim had a rating as low.

....

In contrast, the game between the Flames and the Lightning was the second-highest rated NHL game ever on Canadian network CBC, drawing over 3 million viewers.

Another reason to cheer for the Flames.

I bet of that million watching the game in the US at least half were here in Minnesota. We eat, sleep, and breathe Hockey here. And of course we are the only state to poke up into Canada!:D

Once again WHY! Why do places like Tampa and LA EVEN HAVE HOCKEY TEAMS! If ice to you is only something you put into a drink YOU DO NOT DESERVE A HOCKEY TEAM!

Hey, I'm a US citizen and am rooting for the Flames, even though I lived in Orlando for 3 years (closest hockey club was Tampa). I like the whole cinderella story Calgary has going because they were really bad for a while. Gives hope to teams like my Sabres that are about as cash strapped as most Canadian teams. Remember that run the Sabres had with Hasek in net? Didn't win but was fun nonetheless. :violin:

I also think Iginla is the total package. He reminds me of Jagr back in his prime. Not the body shape or type of player, but the total control he has over his body when he skates (plus he's not the wuss Jagr was in the corners). Reminds me of a running back some of the cuts/moves that guy makes.
