It seems like I can't forget. I've got about 50 WWII and Vietnam-based games surrounding my desk, I don't know how I could forget.

it is not Memorial Day here, but we have Remembrance Day November 11 and I never forget it...I also wear my poppy very proudly in honour of the brave Canadian men and women who gave their lives around the world.

They’re red flowers‚ made by disabled veterans in homes and hospitals as part of their therapy and to aid their rehabilitation. The memorial poppy is never sold‚ but is given in exchange for contributions to help pay for veterans’ physical and psychological therapy. The poppy symbolizes the American war dead and is part of a tradition that began after World War I.
Veterans returning to their homes in this country remember the wild poppies which lined the devastated battlefields of France and Flanders Field‚ and the soldiers of all nations came to look upon this flower as a living symbol of their dead comrades sacrifices.

Yeah, around mid-october, a lot of floppy boxes appear in and around shops everywhere. At most malls small and large, there is usually an army vet, very old age who stands and passes out poppies and people donate as much as they want. I always get one from every army vet I see.

Now what disgusts me the most and pisses the hell out of me is people (especially teenagers) who uses the poppy as a fashion accessory. Pinning it to their bag in the middle, or their hat, instead of pinning it respectfully on your heart like you are suppose to...ugh...stupid #$#@%$!!

Freedom was won and bought by those vets, but it does not mean you can disrespect them for your own vanity reasons.

Even worst is when I was in middle school and high school, there would be rude people in the audience on purpose to get attention during the assemblies... Makes me just wanna go up to them and whack them with a baseball bat.

Veterans deserve more than a day of remembrance, those veterans who are alive deserve our everything because they gave their lives so we can have ours today. They should all get like tax breaks, 50% off everything ... sigh...

Don't hold it too much against them, Commando, they were probably never told how to wear it... I know I wasn't. They probably think the flowers are being sold to raise money, like selling any other kind of flower. In fact, although I knew about the poppy's symbolism, I don't recall ever seeing it being handed out or worn, and I grew up near Washington DC. You gotta separate blatant disrespect from honest ignorance. (Thanks for the education, btw.)

Sorry about that Pudrik, I should have said that these were people who knew year after year how to wear a poppy.

At every single public school in Canada, Remembrance Day services are held every year, it's like almost an unofficial law, starting from Kindergarten.

One would surmise that after all those years from junior school, you'd think they'd know something, you know? :(

I remember one time in grade 9, I heard some kids complain how boring Remembrance Day assemblies were. They were all like "Why do we have to go, it's pointless and a waste of time..." ugh, statements like that just boils me...

Well, I wasn't offended.

Yeah, statements like that would boil me too. That's liberty for you... the freedom to take it for granted.
