quite frankly, i really dont care if i piss anyone off. Bush is an idiot 
anyone else find it comical that whenever you disagree with Bush or or say you don't like him, the staunch Republican party faithfuls come flying out of the closet? the first assumption they make is that you're a Liberal. god knows that only a Liberal would make such a statement!

BBC? arguably one of the leftmost liberal leaning major media organizations in the world.
How about we find news sources that just present the information in an unpolarized way. For all of Fox's rightwing rhetoric at least they admit it.
I love most of Bush's foreign policy (except that crap about hundreds of millions to Africa for "aids" relief. WTH is that? some Africans believe the way to cure aids is to nail a virgin. They don't need aids aid they meed a friggin education.) but his domestic agenda is killing me. Biggest Government expansion since FDR and the Depression. 400 BILLION for medicaire? We working type people who won't be retired for many years are paying for the AARP.
The Rep's should have made Mccain the candidate and he would have won hands done.
And wether any of us likes it or not he is going to win again this year. The Dem's are unorganized and look like prime assclowns in their debates.

idiotic? pfft, whatever. the idea i was trying to get across was to read/listen/watch more than one news media outlet. the BBC was an example, not the standard. but i will mention it is MUCH more highly regarded around the world than ANY news agency in the US.

Ever read Al Jazeera? Unfortunately, they don't have an editorial section, but it is interesting reading sometimes.
Also, Christian Science Monitor can be informative.
Lastly, I like The Cato Institute's analysis of a lot of issues.
Personally, I don't pay much attention to CNN, Fox News, etc. Too little substance.
This election is going to be a tough choice--a "conservative" president who took us to, what I think, was an unnecessary war and has grown Government programs and intrusion, versus Democrats who want to raise taxes, grow government programs even more, and are anything but "straight-shooters."
I just can't shake this feeling of impending doom--something about deficit spending (although as a % of GDP it's better than during Reagan), low interest rates without the usual inflation, a shrinking domestic manufacturing base and middle class, increasing numbers of foreign students in our universities, a nation-wide trend towards increasing socialism, and an approaching proportional increase in old people (and the associated medical spending and asset liquidation) has me worried...

Obviously Horsepower, you don't remember the years 1992 - 2000 do you. You think we are only now the most despised country (read - jeoulousy)? Ummm, wake up man. Under Clinton, we had 1 attack at the WTC, one attack on the USS Cole, two embassy bombings in Kenya, etc. 9-11-01 was PLANNED under CLinton's watch.
Then comes Bush, then the execution of 9-11 then how many more American targets were hit? NONE! Unless I am mistaken, NONE! Doesn't sound like a bad foreign policy planin execution. Not to mention, Saddam is out, Kadafi (sp?) is "giving" up his WMD, etc,etc the list goes on.
I say - fuck what other countries think of us, they aren't going to do shit and don't mean shit to me. What DOES mean shit to me is that for almost 2 1/2 years I didn't have to witness another 9-11 with my own fucking eyes - like I did in NYC that day.

There has been a handful of posts about the reason for the war and I am not going to turn this into another one of them.
I believe the were suficient reason to go to war. I also believe because of political beliefs there are some who would never find an acceptable reason. C'est la Vie.
My sister is an ardent liberal who was all about Clinton going into Bosnia because of the human rights angle. Evidentally Iraqi's don't have human rights though.
And no I am not happy about all the money going to Iraq. Where's the vig to go with the nut? Christ on a crutch we should at least be as self serving as everyone sees us as and take that money back in oil. At least mollify the American people and call it a loan instead of a gift to the region with the second largest oil reserves in the friggin world.
Big difference. Wether you agree with it or not we have already made the commitment in time money and blood.
Oh yeah and by the way. I have been there and I do know. The only continent I haven't travelled yet is Antartica. Although I plan to someday.

Of course the deficit is my biggest worry. But WoW we are only about 5 to 10 years away before all the baby boomers will retire. Longer life spans, "healthier lives", a proportionally smaller working class (in ratio with the retired). No matter how you put it we are deep shit. The ratio of working citizens to retired citizens is estimated to be 2 to 1 by 2030. I'm one not to be greedy, but I'm pretty sure most people will not be willing to give up 50% of their income to taxes. Now, of course this is hypothetical, but it has it's truths because regardless of what all the BS political rhetoric is; every executive admininstration and Congress have just ignored it and left it for the next group which will of course just ignore it as well. Something needs to be done. And it needs to be done before we think about anything else which (however sweet it sounds) directly reflects to this proposed space program spending increase. We as American citizens have allowed for social programs to become a permanent part of our country's ideals, and this is one that cannot be ignored any longer.
I like Bush. I will vote for (:D Someone call me a moron?) him because there is no way and NO WAY in the world that I like Kerry's (god he fumes me. I did like Dean though

Lord Hutton, the judge who presided over the inquiry, further found sloppy editorial practices and a resistance to accountability among the BBC's directors. The report also vindicated the government of having any part in the suicide of scientist David Kelly, who had been the source of the BBC’s allegations. The report precipitated the resignation of BBC chairman Gavyn Davies, director-general Greg Dyke, and the reporter responsible for the debacle, Andrew Gilligan. You can say this about the British, at least, they know when to fall on their swords.

Last week, he survived not just the Hutton report, but also a massive mutiny among left-wing members of the Labour Party, who were protesting his plans for raising university tuition. “The allegation that I or anyone else lied to this House or deliberately misled the country by falsifying evidence on WMD is itself a lie,” Mr. Blair said. “And I simply ask that those who made it and those who have repeated it over all these months, now withdraw it, openly and fully.”
For the BBC, the timing of the report and the investigation could not have come at a worse time. The corporation’s 10-year charter is up for renewal in 2006, and the government is about to launch a debate on the subject of its funding mechanisms. The BBC is a non-governmental entity, with its own board, and funded through radio and television licenses fees paid by the British public. But in a world of independent media, it is surely time to revisit the role of state broadcasters like the BBC, and the Hutton report makes an excellent case why.
Based on an over-drinks interview with David Kelly -- from which his note keeping was careless -- reporter Andrew Gilligan last May claimed on the BBC Today show that Downing Street had “sexed up” the dossier on the information about Iraq’s WMD. The following week, on June 1, he further wrote in a newspaper article that the responsible party was Alistair Campbell, head of government communications in Downing Street, and Mr. Blair’s closest advisor. In response to the Blair government’s denials and charges of bias on Mr. Gilligan’s part, the BBC leadership refused to back down. They ignored the fact that other reporters had raised red flags and took to the offensive without as much as taking the time to review Mr. Gilligan’s story.
The story was raised to a new level by Kelly’s suicide in an Oxfordshire wood on July 17, in the midst of a parliamentary inquiry, in which he had been named as the source for Mr. Gilligan’s story. The British government had been accused of treating Kelly in an underhanded way, which had somehow pushed him over the edge.
