Since there are no longer config.sys and autoexec.bat files you can edit to get rid of programs that appear on startup and are not in the startup folder, how do you track them down ??? Other than tracking down the programmers and using a rusty pliers and bag of salt to rip out their toe/finger nails until they promise to never do it again...

Start > Run > msconfig

And if that doesnt work, download this zip, extract it, and put it in C:\WINNT

I use regedit, but you probably don't want to do that.

Ok that little program called regcleaner I posted about in my tweaks post well that has a killer startup remover. Also when the proggie is opened up the first thing you see is all the software that is installed on your system. Its removal tool seems to run better than the add remove proggies in the control pannel. I dont knwo if they still make the version I have but maybe somebody has some space where they can host it if I send it to em

Is where they are...BE CAREFUL IN REGEDIT... if you dont know what your doing dont use it.

msconfig

period. It does the same thing as the reg, only alot safer, since all you're doing is unchecking things, not deleting. Yes, it may not show you 100% of things, but it'll show you most of 'em. A rare few persistent programs will continue to show up, if so it means a service is calling them, rather than a startup item. If so, you've can try to find the service by also looking in msconfig, under the <gasp> services tab
