Did you do the drive mapping thing too? That is nice for file transfer instead of having to use e-mail or some other crude method.
Any of you guys ever setup an FTP server before? I tried and, and alas, no luck. I could sure use some pointers. I think my cable router may be blocking the pertinent ports. If anyone's willing to help we could take the discussion offline unless the general populace is interested.

You need to open up port 21 on your router to allow incoming FTP traffic. Make that change, and it should work just fine.

I've done that in the past with no joy. Do you use a particular FTP server application? Recommendations?Originally posted by RCinator

I'll try to set one up again and let you know what I encounter.

I just did it and damn if that didn't work as well

Does the shared folder need to reside on my desktop or can I move it to my documents, and if I move it, does the path change (I assume it would).
Thanks again!!!

Just right-click any folder (desktop or not) and you can share it.Originally posted by Bossman

You also need to enable port-forwarding on your router to force port 21 through to your desktop. It's sometimes under "rules" or "applications" too.

Good point, RC. I may not have done that in my prior attempt. I do that for hosting small 1942 games so I'm familiar with the concept.Originally posted by RCinator
