wow when i first read it, I thought it was our resident Charles aka Casus (owner of ECGN?)... I nearly held my breath for a second there...
Anyway, I remember this Ray Charles as the black guy who did Pepsi commercials...remember "You got the right one, baby, uh huh!" song?

That is because those on the airwaves have a large backing from a record label. They pay DJ's to play the singles, which increases air time and knocks them up in weekly 'top 50' charts. The more air time, the more of a chance that some tone def kid wants to buy the album.
Pathetic.
Not since the mid 60's to mid/late 70's were there a large chunk of bands making it on talent instead of bankrolls.
What is even sadder is people like Dave Matthews. He bides his time, works college towns for years, builds a fan base outside of the air waves. Then......he sells out.
Ray was one of the few that actually brought a new voice to music, a pioneer of a new style. His brilliance can be heard in these same American idol jokers on the radio, as well as that little known blues player at your local blues/jazz bar.

I know we bash each other (occassionaly:D ) JT but I can't help but agree with everything you just said.
