Thu Jul 01, 2004 9:45 pm

before the naive will admit Iraq did not declare them as required by 12 years of unheeded UN resolutions?

I'll bet this wasn't reported by the mainstream news media....

Who?

Does this help you out, or should I find a more liberal source? I may be able to if I try really hard.

I don't know, Ralph. You can try...but the Washington Post did a pretty good job of burying that within the story. I'm sure they decided that it wasn't much of a story, so they just hid it there to fill space. Go more liberal, and we might miss the reference altogether.

RC, you should know by now that it's not real news until one of the major papers or networks says so...unless that network is Fox News. Anything that might remotely offer a positive view of America or Bush is radical right-wing propaganda.

Yes, list all the front page stories pertaining to this.

Fri Jul 02, 2004 11:33 am

Bah it can't be true!

It wasn't on LNN (Liberal Network News) and Michael Moore denies it! You and your cheap right wing propaganda.

And that link at the bottom of the story about the insurgents seeking to get their hands on those weapons is pure hogwash!

Those are decent upstanding freedom fighters that are in a foreign country and indiscriminately slaughtering the indiginous population in the name of FREEDOM! Freedom from those awful Americans and the individual freedom and prosperity those disgusting people are trying to bring! NOT IN MY ISLAMIC REPUBLIC!

Polish Army in Iraq 'Mortified' That 'Terrorists Were Looking for These Warheads'

NewsMax.com Wires
Friday, July 2, 2004

WARSAW, Poland – Terrorists may have been close to obtaining munitions containing the deadly nerve agent cyclosarin that Polish soldiers recovered last month in Iraq, the head of Poland's military intelligence said Friday.

Polish troops had been searching for munitions as part of their regular mission in south-central Iraq when they were told by an informant in May that terrorists had made a bid to buy the chemical weapons, which date back to Saddam Hussein's war with Iran in the 1980s, Gen. Marek Dukaczewski told reporters in Warsaw.

Story Continues Below

[AD]
"We were mortified by the information that terrorists were looking for these warheads and offered $5,000 apiece," Dukaczewski said. "An attack with such weapons would be hard to imagine. All of our activity was accelerated at appropriating these warheads."

Dukaczewski refused to give any further details about the terrorists or the sellers of the munitions. He said only that his troops thwarted terrorists by buying the 17 rockets for a Soviet-era launcher and two mortar rounds containing the nerve agent for an undisclosed sum June 23.

In May, a booby-trapped artillery shell apparently filled with the sarin nerve agent exploded alongside a Baghdad road but caused no serious injuries to the U.S. forces who discovered it. At the time, officials stopped short of claiming the munition was definite evidence of a large weapons stockpile in prewar Iraq or evidence of recent production by Saddam's regime.

The warheads all contained cyclosarin, said Polish Gen. Mieczyslaw Bieniek, commander of a multinational force.

"Laboratory tests showed the presence in them of cyclosarin, a very toxic gas, five times stronger than sarin and five times more durable," Bieniek told Poland's TVN24 at the force's Camp Babylon headquarters.

"If these warheads, which were still usable, were used on a military base like Camp Babylon, they would have caused unforeseeable damage."

The tests were done by U.S. experts, who were conducting more.

The munitions were found in a bunker in the Polish sector, but Polish officials refused to be more specific.

The general said the ammunition had been buried in order to avoid it being discovered by UN weapons inspectors.

I dont understand why this hasnt made mainstream news? Surely it would make people think that our actions over there are at least somewhat justified.

After all, most people say that we went over there for WMD and havent found any, etc.

Fri Jul 02, 2004 1:31 pm

Awe common polish army didnt find nothing of the sort. We all know it takes 3 of them to change a lightbulb. It would take more then a few troops to find that many warheads.

Can i get some mustard gas with my Dirty Water hotdogs?

Fri Jul 02, 2004 1:33 pm

well because 15 warheads with sarin isn't a big deal.

when bush made the original accusation he made it seem like there is hundreds of labs producing biological weapons like its cotton candy. reality is very different.

you think 15 warheads justifies a war?

i am not saying there won't be more found just basing things on facts.

wasn't there even talk of nuclear weapons being manufactured?

Fri Jul 02, 2004 1:38 pm

Consider this though Trix. The oppositions whole point has been nothing has been found.

Well evidently something has been found and I doubt the former Iraqi government stuck it all in one big pile and planted a fake cactus over them.

Usually where there is smoke there is fire. this is smoke. now we need to find the fire. (Syria anyone?)

And it is easy to see why things like this don't get reported in the mainstream US or European media. The news organizations have an agenda. This is counter to their agenda so ergo it is not news.

Some of quotes here about Iraq and the threat of WMD's. This is for the people who like to claim George lied about the reasons to go to war. After all according to them its all a Bush conspiracy to take over oil fields, evidently not everyone felt the same way.

"The community of nations may see more and more of the very kind of threat Iraq poses now: a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction, ready to use them or provide them to terrorists. If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps woill be emboldened tommorrow." - President Bill Clinton 1998

"Saddam Hussein's regime represents a grave threat to America and our allies, including our vital ally, Israel. For more than two decades, Saddam Hussein sought weapons of mass destruction through every available means. We know that he has chemical and biological weapons. He already used them against his neighbors and his own people and is trying to build more. We know that he is doing everything he can to build nuclear weapons, and we know that each day he gets closer to achieving that goal." Senator John Edwards, October 2002

"There is no doubt that Saddam Hussein's regime is a serious danger, that he is a tyrant, and that his pursuit of lethal weapons of mass destruction cannot be tolerated. He must be disarmed." - Senator Edward Kennedy, September 2002

"Iraq does pose a serious threat to the stability of the Persian Gulf and we should organize an international coalition to eliminate his access to weapons of mass destruction. Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to completely deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power." Former Vice President Al Gore, 2002

"Without question we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppresive regime...He presents a particularly grievious threat because he is so consistantly prone to miscalculation. And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction...So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real." - Senator John Kerry, January, 2003

"I will be voting to give the president of the United States the authority to use force if necessary - to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadlt arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." Senator John Kerry, October 2003

Yep, seems all along it was some kind of right wing conpiracy now doesn't it?

Fri Jul 02, 2004 2:16 pm

I am amazed how many people are unable (or is it just unwilling) to tell the difference between lying and making a decision based on information that turns out not to be true.

This point is of course based on an assumption which I do not myself believe, namely that Hussein had no weapons of mass destruction.
