Now, John Edwards is a good looking guy, a Democrat, and relatively young. I predict that it won't be long before someone comes forward with some information about an illicit affair with some bimbo; probably a young staffer.
So, because he is somewhat young, somewhat good looking, and a Democrat, he has affairs?

These threads are getting fucking old.

Well, during the 90's we were conditioned by the Dems that infidelity is normal and no one's business right?! So in answer to your question, yes; that's what I'm saying.
BTW I'm not saying that Republicans don't have affairs but it's generally more acceptable behavior coming from Dems.

Well Jimmy wouldn't you agree that our media and political system tends to potray Democrats as kind, warming, loving, individuals and Reps as cruel and heartless?
Mind you I am saying this as a stereotype and in no way am implying any validity to it. But wouldn't you agree that women who were unconsciously influenced by this would find a Democrat more attractive?
So the fact that he is a democrat would have some bearing.
Care to disagree? Thats not a challenge I just think i forwarded a valid hypothesis.
There are women out there that prefer abusive ugly men but I think we could all agree thats not the norm.
Fell free to respond.
Most I know prefer younger attractive men to older less atractive men. I am sure thats somewhat not PC but it is real life.

I had to think about this for a few moments to make sure i bring a clear and concise argument back to the table.
I'm a firm believer that people are a sum of their personality and their actions. Automatically we've seen edwards slammed because his wife is fat. He is indeed a public figure, he is young, has a lot of power and possibly even more if he and kerry are elected to run the country. People automatically assume that he would hop on the first piece of attractive ass that comes banging on his office door because his wife is fat. In the united states a man is innocent until proven guilty... although it has been said that democrats are more likely to have affairs than repulicans. I'd love to see the scientific data to support this.
The superbabes thread is a good thread... however, my argument to that is that we are posting, looking at pictures of intangibles.. things we dont have access to because 1: they are pictures and 2: they are of extremely attractive women who probably would want nothing to do with the likes of us. I dont think gaming is big on a model's personal schedule. Believe me, if i had any one of those girls i really wouldnt be here placing an argument but i'd probably be back with her, having a good time.
99% of people who are fat have the choice to stay that way. I couldn't agree with you more. I try to work out 5 to 6 days a week. When i first started it was extremely difficult to find the motivation to get up and actually physically exert myself to the point of exhaustion. I guess you could say fat people are conditioned to feel bad about themselves the same way that Democrats have conditioned everyone to think that infidelity is normal...
To work out and take control of oneself is a lot harder than you think. Some people are just born lucky, thin lean, tall, or whatever. Its even harder to take control of oneself when you either suffer from depression or from the burden of society that you are socially unnacceptable and that the thin person right next to you is of higher standing just because he/she is thin.
My main problem with the thread if i should be allowed to retract my initial statement would be that given Edward's good looks, power, stature... shouldn't he be given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his own marrige? You said it yourself Charlie, you and your wife made promises to each other... what makes you think that Edwards hadn't made those same promises? Innocent until proven guilty. Just like the rest of us.
And yes COl. you do have the right to not give a shit. God Bless America

No, it is total BS. If Bush had a tenth of the media scrutiny that Clinton had he would have been impeached by now.
If the mendia is so freaking liberal, or kind to liberals, then why the hell was Clinton unkindly pasted all over the news channels, where Bush gets about a 2 minute blurb and no one digs deeper into WTF is going on at the White House? I should turn on the news each and every day and hear commentators DEMANDING an investigation into how Bush used funds for the war in Afganistan to fund preliminary plans to a war in iraq(which is a huge overstep of his powers, and shoudl have him impeached).
You can not deny that Clinton was slung all over the news for a blowjob, where Bush barely gets more than a 2 minute blurb. The biggest thing is where are the WMD? This just happens to be one of the smaller shaddy things that Bush has pulled.
Cry all you want about the liberal media, it is total BS.

Whoa There Jimmy!
Down Boy Down!
I tried to put together a calm concise post there for you to be able to respond intelligently. I wasn't "Blah Blah Blahing liberal media" Would you not agree that what I was talking about is a cultural societal stereotype? It isn't an attack on liberalism. It a statement about societal preconcieved notions that I think many people would agree with.
And I appreciate the fact that you attempted to turn the argument into a Bush sucks rant but you missed the point.
I seem to remember it was true when Clinton was President women as a whole found him attractive and desirable. I am not saying there is anything right or wrong about it just that it was true. I have yet to find one who thinks George is a hottie.
Try to seperate yourself from your political desires and go back and re-read what I posted. If you set aside your desire to attack Bush can you not see the point I was trying to make? I was attempting to do it in a non-threatening/non-adversarial means but perhaps you were upset with this thread as a whole and couldn't appreciate what I stated.
Basically in our society democrats are portrayed as kind, and caring, and reps are portrayed as cold and calculating. Would you or would you not agree with that?

Again, no. It is completley in your head.

I have a HUGE problem with this thread.... just because someone's wife/husband/whoever is big doesn't mean that that guy is unhappy with her/him/them. I'm sorry but its very inconsiderate for anyone to automatically assume that anyone will have an affair because their signifcant other is not to what society says they should be.
I really hope your signifcant other is extremely happy with you all... im sure there are no faults in the way you look or in your personality...
Way to single fat people out and say that they aren't acceptable mates.
I respect your point, but this thread was in jest man...just fun. Man, who ever takes ANYTHING on the internet seriously?

The Col. is right about Nixon loosing because of TV. As to some of the early responses that Clinton's private life was not our business....if the Principal of your child's school was having an affair while at work, don't you think you'd be just a little bit upset? The point is, it was most certainly the public's business and it showed a complete lack of self control or respect that the people gave him.

As a fellow officer of equivalent (although i am sure less time in grade) rank I thank you Col. Bukkake for that extremely illustrative, educational, and most of all, correct point.

IRT King of Beers Sure he may not be screwing around on his wife but this is a jaded country and I made an observation. When Laci Petterson was killed and I saw her husband Scott on tv, I suspected him from the get go. I believe the guy did it just like I see a liberal, good looking politician whose wife is overweight and I see the potential for infidelity. Am I a jury? No. So he's innocent and I'm just making an observation. If you saw a guy running away from a bank that had just been robbed, I'm sure you tell the nearest cop where the guy running just went.
I think you've been a little too sensitive on this subject and let me play the devil's advocate. Say I'm a recovering alcoholic and I find your avatar (your opinion of beer) offensive. 90% of the people who frequent this board drink and share the same opinion of beer.......mmmmm............beer....... or are too young to consume it. Okay, so should you keep your avatar (opinion) to yourself and change it or tell the one or two guys that might be offended by it to chill out. I wonder how you'd receive my statement that I'm offended by your avatar.
IRT JimmyTango Bill Clinton had more media coverage because he wanted more coverage. He is a attention whore for one thing and through his actions, personal/private or conscious/subconscious he deserved the scrutiny he received. Also, given the fact that he sold some of this country's high tech secrets for campaign donations in 1996 (NONE OF WHICH GOT ANY MEDIA COVERAGE) he deserved even more scrutiny than he received.
BTW when you're the President you pretty much forfeit privacy. Comes with the missile key. When you're capable of launching a thermonuclear war, this country kind of expects you to be on call 24/7/365 and to exhibit exude a good moral character.

Can I ask for a ruling on what 'good moral character' entails?

THE CLINTON LEGACY:
LONELY HONOR
Here are some of the all too rare public officials, reporters, and others who spoke truth to the dismally corrupt power of Bill and Hill Clinton's political machine -- some at risk to their careers, others at risk to their lives. A few points to note:
- Those corporatist media reporters who attempted to report the story often found themselves muzzled; some even lost their jobs. The only major dailies that consistently handled the story well were the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Times.
- Nobody on this list has gotten rich and many you may not have even heard of. Taking on the Clintons typically has not been a happy or rewarding experience. At least ten reporters have been fired, transferred off their beats, resigned, or otherwise gotten into trouble because of their work on the scandals. Whistleblowing is even less appreciated within the government. One study of whistleblowers found that 232 out of 233 them reported suffering retaliation; another study found reprisals in about 95% of cases.
- Contrary to the popular impression, the politics of those listed ranges from the left to the right, and from the ideological to the independent.
