This one always cracks me up. Calling Americans cowboys and saying we practice "cowboy diplomacy". Not only did we invent the "cowboy" we like 'em! When I hear a foreign dignitary calling Bush a cowboy I laugh. You think your insulting him? He's from TEXAS! You just paid him a high compliment!

But back to the point: it's odd to say that Americans are evil. I have a few American friends, and I don't really think they are evil :o
Okey, okey, Americans are maybe a bit 'crazy' compared to 'Europeans thoughts' or 'Canadian thoughts', but that doesn't really have to mean that Americans are the 'bad guys' etc. It's just a different culture. Nothing wrong with that.
In some countries it's normal for a man to beat up his wife. We (The West culture) would claim that they are insane (or 'evil' to their wife), because it isn't normal in our culture.
But we have to respect that. We are outsiders, and we have to leave that 'part of culture' alone, and mind our own bussiness.
Now the thing about Canada. What is happening in Canada (I guess) is just a form of propaganda. A propaganda against the US by their own government *. Just like in second world war the people really think that the US is based on evil things, etc.
After (or actually "during", because) the war (isn't over yet) different countries began to 'hate' Americans because of their ignorance against other countries who believed that America was fighting for revenge (Bush Senior couldn't get Hussein....his son did) instead of 'freedom all around the world' and 'the world is not longer dangerous for terrorist attacks'. These countries claimed that the war in Iraq was simply an invasion.
Since that moment (it seems), the Canadian government began an offence against the American government and the Americans itself.

*All around the world, in allmost all countries (in the last 200 years), you have propaganda.
A good example is the period from 1937-1945, when Hitler told the people Germany was the greatest country of all, the 'Ubermensch', etc....we know all that shit
During war (like now), countries that are involved in the war try to confince their people that their country is winning, and that the other country is 'bad'.

To the Americans who are reading this (and I think that's a lot ): even YOUR government is busy with propaganda. I think..no..I hope guys see this trough your own eyes, and base your opinion on your OWN opinion. Media can mislead you, in all kind of forms. Even movies try to mislead you (an American movie about the war in Vietnam is totally different than a movie that was made by Vietnamese). But I assume that you guys knew that too .
My only message for today (of what we are reading about what is happening in Canada): is to try to create an own point of view on a subject (I know Col. Ingus is a really smart guy. Some times a bit too patriotic , but he knows what is happening in the world). CNN can be misleading too (not really often though). The thing what I SEE is happening is this: there is a fight in the US (republicans-democrats), the US is fighting against terrorism (US-Iraq/Afghanistan...AND LET'S HOPE IT KEEPS THAT WAY, BECAUSE SOME AMERICANS ARE WAITING TO HAVE A GOOD EXCUSE TO !!INVADE!!!!! IRAN (or North-Korea on a longer term maybe?) (read the conclusions in the independent report that was released today about 9/11) ), Terrorism against the world, and the rest of the world (who disagree with the US), are 'fighting' against the US.
Looks like chaos to me huh? Or is this opinion I gave you based on European propaganda? Don't know. I hope I am realistic, and I hope you guys say the same (that I try to be realistic ;)).

The youth of Iran are going to change that country and that effect will be greater than any we could ever accomplish. You should read Iranian blog's, a lot of Iran's younger generation dislike their government more than the average American does.

Thats what I am talking anout when I mention self dependency, the "teaching a man to fish parable", the people of Iran would be so much stronger and last so much longer if they do it themselves. Maybe not an Arab democracy? So what.

And as far as North Korea goes didn't we do that once before? I seem to remember it didn't turn out so well. Stop giving them aid and they will fall. That country is untenable and being blackmailed into giving them foreign aid is BS. Let it collapse. We could have stopped giving them food and oil and they would have collapsed during the *ahem* previous administration.

Same here. I don't dislike Canada (I've always wanted to visit up there, see the sites, etc.) but it's when misinformed and ignorant people talk about how America is that irritates me.

yes, I don't really think there will be a war against North-Korea in the upcoming 5 years.
BUT, and I'm not really happy to say this, North Korea is much, much more dangerous than Iraq or Iran (Iraq wasn't that dangerous too in my opinion, but that's just a totally different subject and not important..anymore)!
I allmost certainly know/am convinced that North Korea is in posess of 1 or more Nuclear warheads, and not afraid to use it (especially with the government they now have..or actually allways had).
No...if you ask me...the future doesn't look really bright to me. Let's go to the moon shall we, I hope people can live there in harmony.
But to the Canadians who are angry about this thread:
In the links that was given, the reporter gave only facts about the opinions of the Canadians. The people on this forum discuss it with each other, not attented to make a laugh of you (well, I hope they don't).
As I said to the Americans in my previous post, means the same to the Canadians and all other people in the world: base your opinion of the things YOU see, and not what the newspaper says.

Interesting post Tour..there are some good points there. As to the opinions of Canadian teenagers, I'm not too concerned. Just like in the US, some might be well informed, but the majority probably don't know enough to be taken seriously. I've spent the last two years teaching American teenagers and don't have a very high opinion of their grasp of world politics. If it's different in your school Evan, then good...encourage it. The rising generation in both countries needs a serious wake up call. What really scares me is that the 14 year olds I tought this year remember 9/11, watched it on TV, and still really don't care what happens outside of the Entertainment world.

As to Shockwaves comments about the absurdity of America's reaction to France...it's not absurd. I have no problem with the people of France, but to think for a minute that the government, esp. Chirac, is friendly to America is a mistake. France has repeatedly shown that they are willing to oppose America on just about anything we do overseas, even AIDS relief in Africa. It's going to be interesting to find out just how deep the ties between Mr. Chirac and Saddam go...but the people of France need to start asking some serious questions of their government. As always, just my $.02

Lol. Yes, those posts where you say it is ok they make up their own minds, and that not supporting us is a good way to 'prevent being attacked by terrorists.' Heck, you even go so far to list off supporters of the War in Iraq and how citizens have been taken hostage, and no Canadians have been(which is a false statement).

Like maybe, just maybe, they feel Iraq is not a battle against terrorism, but Afganistan, which they still have troops in, is, and that they are not 'hiding to prevent terror attacks?'
