Pierce Brosnan has quit his role as James Bond 007

Postby 007 » Thu Jul 29, 2004 7:35 am

Following Pierce Brosnan`s remarks in an Entertainment Weekly interview a few days ago, the British press are now "confirming" that the fifth 007 actor has quit his role for good.

Brosnan said in the original interview, "Bond is another lifetime behind me. We went out on a high and I look back affectionately at that time and doing those four movies. But I've said all I've got to say on it."

Today, the Daily Mirror (UK) is amongst a gaggle of papers writing the Brosnan-Bond obituary.

Many female fans will miss Brosnan's smouldering brown eyes (sic) and soft Irish brogue but they'll also be impressed with the list of stars wanting to take his place, which the Mirror have listed as Colin Firth, Ewan McGregor, Orlando Bloom, Colin Farrell, Jude Law, Ioan Gruffud, and even Rupert Everett.

The paper claims, "...whoever is chosen as the sixth will be thrown into action pretty soon as Bond movie makers EON Productions want to start shooting the next film in January.

A spokesman said yesterday: "We would never speculate on the next star. We get hundreds of people who think they would make a good Bond."

Both Sean Connery and Roger Moore publicly "quit" from their 007 roles only to return again.

Too bad. I thought he was a pretty good Bond. Not as good as Moore or Connery, though. :)

Actually, I think Hugh Jackman would make a good Bond...he's an Aussie but I doubt he'd have trouble sounding Brittish...Jude Law or Colin Firth might be ok..the only one I wouldn't go see is Colin Farrell...he'd be totally wrong for the part IMO.

I could see Ewan McGregor. He has that innate 'coolness' , kinda smug and self assured. More like Connery than Moore.

I think Christian Bale woudl be good. He has that GQ look when wearing a suit, yet can be as cold as ice(what bond used to be).

Yeah, I could deal with Christian Bale as bond.

I was actually hoping Sean Bean would take over his role. I think he has that perfect bond look, style, and sound.

Bean would be interesting as Bond, especially since he's a past Bond Bad guy....Christian Bale could definately pull it off, but it'd be kinda wierd having the same guy play Batman and James Bond.

Christian Bale would be good. One of the very few that should even be considered. I hope they dont put in somebody like Collin Farrel just because he's the teen idol of the month (or whoever is). Would completely ruin the movies.

i think McGregor would be awesome as bond... he filled the role of Obi-Wan very nicely... and yes he's got that inate coolness to him. They've been really selective whenever they pick a new one so lets hope they do a good job again.

I thought that he said before he made Die Another Day that this would be his last film. Just not really ground breaking news.

Clive Owen is definately the man for the job. I see Christian bale as more of a Bond bad guy...
