Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

I have heard that in Canada it is legal to smoke or maybe buy????
Perhaps some of our fellow ECGN'ers north of the border can help us out here eh?

Some parts of Canada, specifically BC, do not enforce the laws against pot.

Yes, I have heard that in British Columbia, as long as you dont act a fool, and strut around town blowing the smoke into the face of an officer, they will not give you trouble. But it is illegal to smoke it.

the government grows and sells it to people who need it for medicinal purposes.
it will soon be decriminalized. it'll still be illegal, but you'll be handed a small fine instead of having a criminal record. Which is alllll gooooooood my friends

I'm not an expert but from what I understand they moved about a year ago to decriminalize small amounts. It's still illegal to posses/sell/smoke, etc. However, if they catch you with a couple of joints it's just a fine, no record. I think the limit is under 28gms (1oz) for 'personal'.
Don't quote me on it though--it's been hashed around in the court systems for several years now. Basically I think the cops are fed up having to enforce a law for small amounts of it. It costs the system 3 or 4 grand to process one person and give them a fine of 200 bucks (plus a mark on their record) ... so in the end of the day is it really worth it? Easier just to write a ticket, take the pot (and you know where it goes then) and say 'Beat it kid'.

Actually, I watched some program on it, and they were interviewing an officer from BC. He said there is more important things to worry about than pot and prostitution, so they rarely enforce the laws for those two crimes.

Roger That!
Legalize 'em both!
People are going to do drugs wether its socially acceptable or not. Legalize it, tax it, and get rid of the income tax.
Same I dea with prostitution. Same effects as above with the added benifits of controlling the spread of social diseases (testing the girls etc.), and allowing complete freaking weirdos to get their rocks off in ways other than criminal.
All I see are upsides.

Absolutely !!!! Stop the insane "War On Drugs"! It is unwinnable (is that a word?).
The Feds and local police should be directing thier time towards catching "real" criminals that involve "real" victims.
If I want to do drugs and am not harming anyone else than so be it. If I die, then it's my fault. I know the consequences.
Use the taxes from drugs for social programs to help the addicts if they cannot use in moderation.
Same goes for prostitution. It has been around for thousands of years and is the oldest known profession in history. Obviously, WE WANT IT! Christ, look at all the sex related crimes.
