If they want to prevent the movie from being a mindless shooter, they should follow a different story than the one of the game. Now I havent exactly played Doom3 yet, but I dont exaclty expect a thick plot when I do get my hands on it.
What about a story on how the gates got opened? Or maybe a story on a Barneyesque security guard trying to escape? Anything would be better than a live action walkthrough of the game.
the story in Doom3 is more in depth than you think. The Hell gates are explained BTW.

I'm glad to hear that a story finally develops. I'm on alpha level 3 heading toward alpha level 4, and so far it's just been "hurry up marine we can't wait for you forever! go here! go there! join bravo team!"
no story as of yet, but I'm still hardcore hooked into this game.

Actually, since most of you aren't old enough, or been around playing computer games long enough, or both, you probably aren't aware of the novels put out around a decade ago(or longer) based on the Doom game.
They aren't classical novels by any stretch, but they are a good read, and explain the storyline, characters and backstory that leads up to the games and beyond them.
As for the movie, well, the rights have been passed around from company to company in Hollywood for quite a few years now, interesting to see someone might actually get around to making a movie finally....although iD could probably just make it themselves using the Doom3 engine
Oh..wait..they did that..it's called Doom3 isn't it

The enemy is attacking, let us prey.

are you trying to tell me that doom actualy has a storyline? i thought it was just a cheap game designed to make the user jump and kill some time, and that this 3rd one was just copying all other games that are making sequals and prequals

I remember those Doom novels, I read them from when I was 11 years old until I was 13. Very good read... maybe that's why I didn't turn out alright, I was reading violence when I should have been reading something else...

I actually have the first two of those Doom series novels. Knee Deep in the Dead, and Hell on Earth. In Knee Deep in the Dead, you're on Mars and you actually find a female survivor, an equivalent of the main character, and together you both kick some major ass!

to get the full story you have to read all of the emails, listen to all of the voice logs, watch the video disks, and read any files that are on computers. When you piece all of that together with the rest of the game, there actually is a pretty decent story there. Not great...but decent.
