'Simpsons' Voice Actor Says He'd Like to Leave

Humorist Harry Shearer, whose disgruntled attitude in real life (and exhibited on his public radio program Le Show) is often transposed into brilliant comedy in the characters he portrays, has indicated that he is so dissatisfied with the course of The Simpsons that he'd "rather not be there now." Shearer, who voices numerous characters on the animated series, including Mr. Burns, Smithers, and Ned Flanders, also complained in an interview with the Irish Examiner that he has been relegated to essentially walk-on parts on the series. Referring to the fact that he reportedly earns $250,000 an episode for recording only a few lines of dialogue per episode, Shearer remarked, "It's possible to make a very nice living and still get totally screwed." His remarks outraged The Simpsons producer, Al Jean, who told the New York Post: "He's a guy who's been a malcontent, in my view. ... For someone earning millions off the show this year ... I just think it's unfathomable for him to take a shot at us."

Fuck Ned Flanders... I could also do w/ out Smithers and Mr. Burns.

This show should have been cancelled years ago.

It stopped being funny around 1999...

I LOVE the simpsons, but these new episodes just suck.

You're right... it should've been cancelled when South Park too the title as best adult cartoon away from them. When The Simpsons stopped being innovative and South Park started really pushing the envelope is where it all went downhill from there.

At this moment:
Family guy > South Park > Simpsons

yah family guy is deffinatly at the top of my list to

I'm afriad this whole new surge of Family Guy isn't going to hold up to the hype. New Episodes? A movie? I can only hope.

Fri Aug 13, 2004 12:36 pm

new episodes???? a movie???? i just watched every episode as they came out and then just followed it as it got knocked around the different stations watching the reruns

That's pretty much what every real Family Guy fan has been doing. It's going back to Fox soon and there is a movie in production.

what a whiner. if he wants to leave his HIGH HIGH HIGH paying job when all he has to do is read a couple of lines, I say let him.

It's time for the Simpsons to introduce some new characters, in my opinion. The shows aren't as funny as they use to be because nothing has changed for years and years.

It kinda bugs you when you know you'll never have a $250,000 per EPISODE job in your life and this guy does and he bitches about it. Don't bitch- just leave. And celebrities wonder why some people are resentful.

Fox took away Futurerama and left us with crappy Simpsons episodes. Thus Fox sucks.

You people are missing the point, he want's to leave because the writing sucks. He does more voices than those three, about 10 or more. His main complaint was that after doing these characters for 13+ years, he had formed a character to go with the voices, and that the writing had just gone away from the character that was originally created, just to be funny or get new viewers. Anybody know what movie Harry Shearer co-wrote and starred in. Heres a hint, its about rock and roll.
