Sorry to stray even further from topic but I couldn't agree more.
I did use Kelly's BB to price out my truck. I was able to knock nearly 2K from the dealer's price.
Now back to Carfax. The dealer was more than interested in showing me the Carfax printout. Since I know they want to make the sale pretty badly, that fact made me question a few things about who Carfax was helping the most.

Off topic but something I meant to bring up....
Does anyone know of a site I can go to to get current list prices of used vehicles? I want to buy a used Toyota Rav4 off a guy (been stored in a garage for 5 years) but think his asking price is a bit high.
There are lots of sources for american prices, but the Lemon Aid Used Car Guide can be a good guide up here. It's a book though, not a webste. I think this site is out of date, cause I'm pretty sure I saw the new edition in the store about a month ago, but it's a bit of an explanation.

The authority on car pricing. Anyone buying or selling a car should really look at this site first (or pick up the actual current book).
Thanks for the tip Evan. Unfortunately it's an American link only.... At least I know what the Rav4 is going for in Oklahoma

The Honda was purchased at auction "as is". I repaired it. It had 15,000 miles on it at the time. It saved me about $7000 doing it this way. Dealer auctions are a nice little club that keeps the public out so prices can be kept low for the dealers. Yes, it's a scam.
And you're right, it would affect the person that may buy it in the future and that's the problem.
I don't blame you in the least for doing the work yourself, those companies charge you out the whoo-hah to fix your car.

Dealer auctions are the only way to buy a car IMO, unless money doesn't mean anything. I'm cheap, and refuse to pay retail for anything, so it's worth it for me.
It's a cozy relationship between dealers and the state here in Michigan. Dealers pay their license fee, and the state guarantees no competition from outside their exclusive club.
