Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

The first 3 were brilliant... no doubt. They blew every fan's f-ing mind. If you watch any of the documenteries on the Episode 1 dvd, you'll hear Lucas say that he wants to create new technology or at least advance it so it could be affordably adpated towards other movies.

Ok, to prove how much of a Star Wars dork i was, in 1994 i mailed a letter w/ construction paper leaf to Lucas at Lucasfilm. The whole purpose of it was to have everyone in my english class send a leaf to a celeberity have them sign it and send it back... and we'd post it on the wall where a big tree was.

I got a letter back, which was way cool, personalized to me. However, it wasn't by lucas but by his press secretary. She had to apologize because Lucas doesn't partake of such programs because he gets a lot and cant fulfil every request. No probs i thought, a actual response was better than what some people got. I still have the letter, laminated. The paper they used was even cool.

Hower JimmyTango, i must confess that you are wrong about "12" stories. It really is 9. That was one of the questions i had asked and his press sec. confirmed it. I will dig up the letter and post it if anyone is interested.

The only thing i can think of about an dif. director taking care of the last 3 films, i would say the 2nd unit director of the 2nd trilogy would probably be a close fit. He's relatively young, has worked with Lucas a lot and probably could enforce the same enthusiasm. With his own imprint of course.

McFarlane? not sure about it, but thats what they said about Sam Raime (sp) taking the reigns of the Spider-Man Trilogy and look where thats headed.

Kevin Smith could probably do a good job, he imprints a lot of Star Wars lore into his films even stuff thats not really in the fims but outakes as well. Its not like he'd write the screenplays, they'd i'd assume be written by Lucas and possibly edited this time. I'd rather have someone know something of the previous work than someone who knows only that there have been 6 movies made.

I'd murder someone if Tim Burton directed. probably have edward lightsaber-hands. Or all be clay-mation. fuckin' stupid.

Kevin Smith has never done anything serious (not including Jersey Girl which i did not see or hear anything about that i remember) i wouldnt mind Burton didnt he do the first batman.

Kevin Smith & Star Wars

Just to clarify, I wouldn't have Kevin Smith direct, I would have him executive produce it, ie, pick the script and director for the film. I throw out his name to produce it because he is one of the few hollywood people (that I know of anyway) that is young enough and understands the way we felt about the original trilogy. He is one the few hollywood types that treats it with a certain kind of respect as something other than a marketing machine.

Maybe it's too obvious, but Spielberg seems to be the most natural choice to direct.

I am a huge fan butl I kind of wished he would let the series die after the Episode 3 because the last two were terrible. I saw the original Star Wars in the theater as a kid and it blew my mind away so to suffer through Menace and Clones was just too much. I think he needs to stop listening to his kids.

Keep in mind he didn't direct Empire Strikes Back or Jedi so maybe he will go for another director but otherwise he should let it go!! I will be on line in May for episode 3!

By the way how does the Lucas holy trilogy stack up to the orignal holy trilogy of Peter Jackson's?

Apples and Oranges in my opinion. Lucas' is smart, and had revolutionary views on directing and SFX, but Jackson't got the edge if only because his source material is so well written. Comparing Lucas' writing to Tolkien's isn't really fair.

Just think of all the new types Jar Jar Binks' and Ewoks we'll have to endure.

Come on everyone get your light-sabres out, and wave 'em around like you just don't care.

You are just jealous that a group of little fury things had the capability to help get rid of the empire on Endor... Squirrel, you shouldn't compare yourself to other types of madeup mammals, its not right.
