NHL could possibly disband.

Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

IMO, the only reason nascar is good is how competitive it is... Its really up to the skill of the team and the driver, not new technology...

As long as they don't use the name NHL or the real NHL teams and player names.

That would be hard to do...

This league looks interesting in the meantime.
"Original Stars Hockey League"

-4 on 4 skaters with goalies;
-removal of the center-ice red line;
-no-touch icing; and
-penalties being taken as penalty shots with chasers.
Also, the periods are 17 minutes long.

The first game last night between Toronto vs Detroit ended with Toronto winning 16-13.

That league looks like it will take over the NHL. Hopefully all the cities with NHL teams won't lose their teams though.

I hope that nobody goes out to support this league. If players are willing to play for $5,000 per game in this league, someone explain to me why they won't play for $150,000 per game in the NHL.

I think that the public should send a clear message to all players and managment that they will NOT support "NHL players" playing in "pick up hockey leagues". If the public quites supporting these guys, maybe that will send the message that this needs to be fixed ASAP!

If these guys suddenly are not approached for autographs and are not so popular with the fans, then maybe they will agree that playing hockey for a living, and getting paid $1.3 million a year (average) is not such a bad life compared to what they would be doing if they did not have professional hockey as an option (read into this getting a REAL job).

fair enough Sir Loin, but there are a lot of people who are losing money and ultimately, JOBS beacuse of this thing...

It is just such a sad state when something like this impacts on so many.

I do like hockey and sad to see it get suspended. When baseball had their strike back in 1994, it ruined it for about 4 or 5 years IMO. I feel like hockey will be the same way. There will have to be major changes within the sport to bring it back up to par.

I agree...and worry that we will really be hit hard if this lockout goes as long as it appears that it will go.

The question is even with major changes, will the fans (and their money) in the US still come back? I have myu doubts in cities other than Detroit, Boston, Chicago, Colorado, NY and maybe LA.

You forget St. Louis, Tommy... Chicago would forget about the hawks quicker than you can say "free hoagies at Wrigley" or "URLACHER IS THE MAN!"

The Blues have their fans... we're skeptical about the situation but I really don't think that STL would forget the team with the longest playoff tradition without winning the big one.

Well, I know personally that Hartford's been waiting to get a hockey team back for awhile...
