5.1 speakers
I am considering getting 5.1 speakers. I have a low end altec lansing 4.1 system (cost maybe $50 several years ago) but my nforce soundstorm sound does not support 4.1. It does support 4 speaker, and 5.1 or more. This means my sub-woofer gets no use.
I am conidering Logitech X530 (only $59) http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=36-121-118&depa=0 or X5300 ($139) http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=36-121-106&depa=0
Anyone have either one of these? I liked my 4.1 until my sub-woofer was left out.
Jim
P.S. I have Asus A7N8X Del ver 2.0 mobo with soundstorm audio. The newest nforce drivers don't support 4.1.

Logitech's phasing out the Z-680s, with the new Z-5500s. 680s should price drop soon, those are awesome speakers.
Or, you can go with the Z-5500s.
Klipschs are awesome too, but at a premium price.
However, all those speakers I mentioned are THX certified, kind of a waste if you don't pair it up with a THX certified sound card.

THX is itself a waste. It is a joke. Most of the 'standards' are things you can self adjust, like setting the crossover to 80 on your receiver. It is an expensive badge that does little else.

I agree with Tommy. For the non-audiogeek, these Logitech speakers are quite nice. I've got the same ones, and I'm very pleased with them. Are there better ones? Sure. But these are a good solid 2nd tier option, if you don't demand complete audio perfection.
for gaming and most mp3s, these speakers are great...also for DVDs if you do that...
But like I said, if you are really concerned about sound for music (and not gaming, etc...), then you should hook up a CPU to your stereo and use it solely for high-end music...
This setup can work great, but for the multipurpose use that most people will put their speakers through, these 5.1 speakers are more than acceptable...in fact, I think that they are awesome. Great rumbling bass, clear sounds and true surround sound...hearing bullets and shells going past your head in BF is a beautiful thing, and nothing compares to the sound of artillery whizzing past you (IMO).
