Robot soldier

How far off do you think the armed forces are from a robot soldier? Can you imagine an RTCW like robot soldier? That would save a lot of lives for one side at least. Some of the players of RTCW are really skilled, if they controlled an actuall robot on the battlefield it would be one heck of a soldier. What do you think?

Im thinking the Honda corporation has the Asimo, which can walk and stuff but it cant run. There are some robots that can run. But I wonder how far the top secret stuff is? I bet they have something.. its not too much of a stretch. Just imagine what you can do on Beach mod, leaping jumping, tossing nades, shooting.

Far as robotic androids go, they are useless.
Far as military robots go, theres plenty already in action. Including the spy planes etc etc.
And you guys idea of a robot humanoid is rather stupid, a 2legged soldier compared with a treaded mobile vehicle... yeh I think a remote control tank is a little friendlier... well user-wise =D

Freindlier? What doest that have to do with anything? And your treaded vehicle is going to have a tough time negotiating a door, hopping a curb, climbing a ladder, crawling through a hole, jumping etc. A treaded vehicle is useless in an urban combat zone. And don't call my idea stupid. If I had a soldier that was controlled by a mouse and a keyboard as easily as one controls a player in Castle Wolfenstein I would own your treaded vechicle everyday.

I don't really see that bot from Honda doing any of those things any time soon either.. The best I've seen it manage is walking up some shallow steps, very very slowly

The bipedal robot will get better pretty quickly, give it 15 years or so.
I wonder if that's the best form though. I think having 'legs' is the best solution for all around travel (stairs, ladders, etc). Maybe a four or six legged bot would be best. Each leg having a foot kind of like a monkeys foot (which is pretty much like a monkey's hand I suppose). In other words, a foot that can grasp things like a hand can. Make it relatively small and light, maybe the size of a dog, 50 lbs or so.
Then thing would be really interesting: who would be dominant? The US has a very advanced military, but perhaps a country like Japan might emerge as a new Superpower overnight.
Either way, poor countries would be utterly f*#*'d when it comes to war. It's bad (from their point of view) that they have to deal with kill/death ration that nearly 1000 to 1, imagine if Western nations used primarily robots? Millions of these little high tech wonders shooting up a city, and very little that can be done in response. No one would give a sh*t if we lost 500 robots a day, or if you released a video of masked men decapitating a robot.

robots=goocloned footsoldiers=better
probably would have latency issues for close combat being remote controled from miles away. Or destroy their antennas, EMI, signal jacking, signal jamming ect.
Would need an AI or else even a thunderstorm could put out whole battalions.

Latency shouldn't be problem, UAV are flown from miles away, no latency issue there, radio signals travel at the speed of light. Might not want to have EA do the programming though

Last year, (in Iraq or Afghanistan, I don't remember which) a Predator UAV carrying a missile attacked a car carrying suspected terrorists. It wasn't that long ago that the concept of remote control planes attacking targets was just science fiction.
