I thought SP2 was supposed to be MORE secure..

Wed Dec 22, 2004 8:28 pm

Does this even concern us folk NOT using sp2?

I don't want to download something that screws up my pc...

Thu Dec 23, 2004 6:21 am

Affected Software:

Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Service Pack 6a – Download the update

Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 6 – Download the update

Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 and Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 – Download the update

Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 and Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 – Download the update

Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition Service Pack 1 – Download the update

Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition Version 2003 – Download the update

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 – Download the update

Microsoft Windows Server 2003 64-Bit Edition – Download the update

Just goto windows update and download it. If it requires sp2 it won't display it.

Damn Microsoft, Im thinking of getting a Mac. Go Parrot Go! :D

Blah, I've never downloading Service Pack 2 again. Decided to take the risk of downloading and installing it a few months back, and it was a pain trying to remove it - almost reformatted actually... Thinking about doing that again since 90% of the stuff on here is stuff I never or very rarely use...and yet, more than 20GB is used on my HD when all I do is use Trillian, IE, and about two or three games. But then again, BF1942 is taking up about 8GB last time I checked :P

Every Spyware infested machine I come across, the more and more I push Macintosh.

0 viruses.
0 Spyware.
0 Active X.

'nuff said.

SYMPTOMS
After you set up Windows Firewall in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), you may discover that anyone on the Internet can access resources on your computer when you use a dial-up connection...

CAUSE
Because of the way that some dialing software configures routing tables, Windows Firewall in Windows XP SP2 can sometimes interpret the whole Internet to be a local subnet.

And this software is written by monkeys, I suppose?

Macs are good, and the above is pretty mcuh true. But the simple fact is, esp. with the newer technology like AMD's 64 chips, PC's over power macs in every way.

A single amd 64 chip machine outperforms a Mac dual proc. 2ghz G5 in almost everything. The G5 prevails in Photoshop ect, but by a small margine.

Put in dual AMD Server procs, and its no contest.

Macs are more secure, but PC's are more powerful, esp. for the money. Macs are over priced.

Here's a link to a long amd 64 review, and a comparison vs. the G5

Yes, even though macintosh does have sorta good products (expensive!) eventually they always loose out because they are the ultimate in proprietary, unless they pull a microsoft and assimilate other products and firms to keep up. ;)

PCs are way more powerful, and less pricey but that doesn't necessarily make them better.

I still think I can get more work done with a Windows PC, but I think I know what I'm doing. The fact is 80% of users out there are oblivious to even the most basic PC functions and capabilities, and an even greater percentage of people never even need the power their PC is capable of.

I used to laugh at Macs, too...but ever since OS X I'm singing a different tune.

Are Macs perfect? No...they have their share of problems (how about endless boot times) but if Microsoft is going to continue releasing a sub-par OS, with thoughts of charging people for extra security then I'm going to make sure Apple reaps the rewards of people diving off the Microsoft wagon.

I don't even bother with this crap anymore. Im sick of downloading things from them that just breaks my computer. If my computer is running fine and I can go online or play wolf Im happy.
